So I'm in a pickle here. I did the mag conversion, which was actually pretty simple to install, but now I have a rifle that doesn't work.
Gun would work just fine with the stock, plastic mag prior to this. Now with this conversion, it won't feed properly and it won't extract fully. When trying to feed a new round, it seems that the tip of each round won't go high enough to hit the chamber properly and just jams into the barrel just below the chamber opening. When trying to extract, it pulls the round out about half way, at which point it seems that the next round in the magazine is interfering and causing the extracted round to be unhooked from the extractor in the bolt.
Seems odd as most of the comments I've read about the conversions is that they go smoothly and the rifles work just fine afterwards.
I've also tried with 3 different mags, and they all act exactly the same, so I'm not convinced it's magazine related.
I'm a little stumped. Is there a mystery modification that's needed to make this setup work properly? I did actually follow along with the 4 youtube videos showing how it's done, so if there is another step to perform, it wasn't mentioned in the video.
The rifle isn't filthy, it's pretty darn clean. But does it have to be polished, shiny clean in order to work properly now? If that's also the case, then I'd be better off going back to the plastic mag that worked flawlessly.
Any help, advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hope it's something simple, even if it's so simple that I feel stupid afterwards.....
