The Medium Bore Thread

Slamfire,

can you share details? ...

I acquired this Remington 798 rifle as a .300 Win. Mag. (it's actually a Zastava barreled action in a Remington laminate stock). It was retro-fitted with a 24" McGowen Precision barrel chambered for .350 Remington Magnum. A 1-in-12" twist was specified in order to stabilize heavy for caliber projectiles. The barrel is free-floating with the action properly bedded. Since it's a long action, cartridge overall length isn't restricted to the short standard overall length of this round. The throat has been lengthened accordingly.

Heavy projectiles can be seated without taking up case capacity unlike the standard cartridge. This rifle is capable of safely firing 310gr bullets at 2500 fps, and 250gr bullets at 2750 fps. I call it the .350 Rem. Mag. SI (Slamfire Improved).

Heres my 416 Taylor, built by my Brother over 25 yrs. ago.
An 03A3 Springfield action, Douglas Premium octagon barrel, multi-leaf rear sight and many other goodies, stock by him also.
Its a real tackdriver but you know you are shooting something when you squeeze the trigger.
I have yet to blood it but it has taken a Bison and several Bear.

Of all the pictures of rifles that pop up on this web site, this one is always one of my favorites. A real beauty.

I love your brothers 404 he built for you, a real working gun with beauty!!!
I also love the 416 Taylor, that barrel/rib/sight work is spectacular !
I have looked for a 404 Jeffries for awhile with no luck, so am build a single square bridge Granite Mountian M98 standard magnum action with a #5 contour Pac-Nor barrel, no other details finalized yet, wouldn't mind a few more detail pictures of yours and your brothers gun for inspiration !
Thanks a lot !

I agree, likely my favourite rifle on this site, especially due to the family connection.

That rifle is GORGEOUS!

Cheers

Thanks Jay, therein lies the problem, afraid to fly it anywhere!

Is it wrong to steal your kid's white crayon?

Is it still wrong if you steal it to put a white line on the rear sight of the Dangerous Game rifle you plan on taking to Africa for Cape Buffalo?

Chuckle!

Cheers
Jay

My .375 M70 Alaskan, drying out a little in Northern B.C.

A Custom C 700 doing what it does best.

My first .375, a 550 CZ. Its rebarrelled to .375 Weatherby now.

Its twin in .416.

I'll dig for some more, theres a Kimber .338 and a Rem 35 Whelen somewhere.

I think the correct trip plan is north coast BC, then Africa or Australia for a minimum of 21 days to dry the rifle out. It has to be done.

Always liked the concept of the .350 in a 6lb range rifle.

I'm building one now... Stainless with 20" barrel with iron sights in a kevlar stock... not 6 pounds though... will come in at 7+#... but I like a hefty rifle... Leopold VX-3 1.5-5... wet weather, "general purpose" carry rifle
