I'm 43 and got into the category because years ago a friend and I decided we needed a cheap handgun for some ill-advised experiments. Picked up a terrible Iver Johnson .38 S&W and learned a few things, one of which was what we were doing wasn't nearly as dangerous or innovative as we thought it was going to be.
Anyway, we both wanted to do the fooling around but he wasn't willing to go through paperwork for it, so it ended up in my name. For years that was the only one in my safe, but there are 3 others in there now.

Up until a week ago, I may have been the youngest 12(6) owner at 38. By virtue of my age, I was precluded from owning 12(6) but that didn’t stop the CFP from giving me 12(6) possession and acquisition on my licence about 4 years ago. Firearms officers assured me that they CFP does not make mistakes and that I was supposed to have 12(6). I bought and sold 12(6) firearms over the years until last week when a red faced FO contacted me about a “glitch” in the system.
This wasn’t an isolated event and others across Canada were also affected.

Just my 12(7) firearms (inherited prohibited). If I had retained the other 12(6) firearms that would be an interesting question indeed.

I'm 58 have a few prohibs
44yrs and likely one of the younger ones. I have my 12.6 "Luger" and my 12.5 "FN FAL" classes. I collect the milsurps in these classes.
It does keep prices low, and you can still shoot a 12.6 pistol like it was a normal restricted.
I am sad though that none of our organizations are pushing to enable 12 rifles be treated as restricteds for shooting. I'd donate big bucks tomorrow to the CSSA if they started a push here. The FN C1 was the first firearm I ever fired, and I'd like to shoot it again some day. The prohibs, and the ability to prohib anything should be our #1 priority to get behind.
I have rescued one prohib handgun from an estate, but I fear the majority of these end up turned into police for destruction after their owner passes.

I'm a bit curious about the 12(6) status. Did you have to be grandfathered in to hold a permit? What happens to firearms if someone were to pass with a 12(6) license? Can you pass them on to family members?

If a person is not grandfathered, the only prohibited firearms they may possess or acquire are handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm or less or that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition, and only if all of the following criteria are met:
the handgun was made before 1946, and
the handgun was registered in Canada on December 1, 1998, and
the individual is the child, grandchild, brother, sister or spouse of the lawful owner, and
the individual is acquiring it for an approved purpose such as target shooting or as part of a collection.
Under these circumstances, the individual can lawfully acquire and possess the handgun in question, but they are not grandfathered or authorized to acquire more prohibited handguns.
