To be honest, The Whelen has yet to fire a round.... and the .223 Scout has very few miles on it either.... I was just going by my impression in regards to how thick the coating is and how hard it is to the touch.... I also have 4 Rugers with the all weather coating and don't find that to be durable at all.... most of them have their share of scratches and scuffs from hard use, I plan on putting the barreled actions through the blasting cabinet when they deteriorate to the point that it actually bothers me.....
Yes, if I had a complaint about the Hawkeye, the finish would be it. As far as the blasting cabinet goes, good idea, but as long as there's no rust, the wear just gives it character
