I am looking for some scope recommendation for my new Henry 45-70.
Something for quick site acquisition and reasonably close distances....mostly within 100yards given the rifle.
Keeping it traditional so no red dot.

I don't know much about the small objective lenses or low magnification... But I have a pair of vx-3's, and they are great scopes. So, I can't see how you'd go wrong with a leupold.

I just acquired a Nikon Monarch 1-4x20 with the German #4 reticle and it is really nice glass. Mounted it on my 45-70 single-shot. I was looking for a Leupold in the same magnification but this one caught my eye first.

"Traditional scope" for a lever action?

1-4x or 1.5-5x Leupold would be my choice.

I have a 2.5x20 Bsa on my 45/70. It works great. On my 458 wm I have a Bushnell elite 3200 2-7x32 and love it. The rain guard works great. 2 power I see the front blade and 7 power I can really pick up detail at distances past 100 yards. It's small enough to look decent on a Henry I think. Mine has handled the recoil of 500 gr slugs going 2250 fps so they live up to the recoil proof guarantee. The best part is it was only about $250+ tax

I would suggest a scope with less power rather then more. As it's more about fine tuning accuracy that these rifles are capable of. And, sufficient eye relief for the 45-70 in particular. I see the lever as a gun that is easy to carry and is at it's best from 200 yards and in. Yes they can shoot further out there - but how often do most deer hunters (and probably bear hunters) shoot out past 200 yards on most of their hunts.

I have a Redfield revolution 2-7x32 on mine. Cheap, clear, accurate and always stays true. 1-4 is lacking when sighting in anymore than 50 yards. Target looks a mile away. Always finding myself turning it up to 5-7 power looking for antlers, especially in low light.

I disagree on the magnification..... at 50 yards, a 4x will make your target look 12.5 yards away..... how much closer could you want it?.....

I do like your choice though...... redfield scopes are very simple and solid optics.......
