I'm just playing with the idea of going on a long 6 week hunting trip up in Alberta
Anyone who has ever owned a Rokon knows ther a tank in the bush the two wheeled tractor goes anywhere you can ride a horse .
I think it be fun to ride around the foothills of the Rockies Hunting elk etc.
I have a tipi tent (hot tent )for extended camping that easily fits on the frunt rack of the bike along with the gun rack to carry T/C encore
Just wondering if any of you guys from Alberta tried this type of hunt on Rokons
Is ther good Horse trails up around Hinton or would the Southern Rockies be better for hunting and riding ?

That chainsaw bar is causing me hebbie-jeebies.
I took a slip on bar cover and drilled a hole at the bottom and used a
bungie cord to hold it on.
It sits on the back of me quad and them dang furhounds run by that exposed
blade all the time.
I kept thinking stitches and vet bill.
Yours looks like it would do a number on yer right leg.

The saw was just put on the frunt rack for transporting in the truck
I keep the chainsaw in camp where it belongs
I just pack a small hand saw just in case but find it quicker and easier to go around obstacles rather than buck my way through

Legally Rokons ar a tractor in Canada
I will make sum calls wen I get back next week Rokons fall under sum unusual rules in BC and Alberta
I think I'm okay as long as I'm not shooting well on the bike
The bike will be for getting to and moving camp plus running to different areas and packing out game but the hunting will be on foot
The idea is to get away from the crowd in sum of the more remote areas with no road access

seeing how I have no clue how to ride a horse But have A perfectly good tractor to ride haha
I am going with a tipi tent over a dome or wall tent
I wanted a hot tent but wall tents are a pain wen hunting by yourself setting up is easy but rolling up Canvas tent sucks especially if it's wet
I fell in love with the tipi tents One third the weight and bulk of canvas
Just one pole in the center of the tent and a small wood stove to help with the early morning chill

I know somewhere we can hunt elk on foot; atv's only though no bikes.

does the RIV say they are a tractor? I had to produce a valid VIN to bring mine in from the US...I dont recall it was classified as a tractor..(or even a 'moto-tractor') but certainly curious if this is the way they are categorized. BTW I like the TP style too. Allows you to standup to change etc easy to heat and sheds snow well.
 
Alberta says no Atv's UTV's Etc. before noon. or it did a few years ago when I was hunting. might have changed but don't thing so. basic rules for years. You can I think transport a camp set up into the bush but not sure off the wording. but firearms have to be secured some how. best read the hunting Reg's
 
There is lots of places around the Hinton/Edson/Grand Cache area but if you want to be in the base of the Hills you have to be aware of all the park areas as there are a few. Jasper no hunting. Wilmore park foot or horseback some camp grounds are no hunting/firearm areas. lots of logging roads and pipeline/gas roads. there maybe others I never came across you can explore all day and never pass the same way twice.
the group I hunted with I thing only got skunked for moose 1 year out of about 16 years. lots of deer but the areas they hang out in seem to change year to year

I drive by Hinton so many times a year and each time keep thinking to my salf one of these days I'm going to go hunting
Same Manning Alberta I realy like the Chaga road (I know I spelt that wrong ) to lots of wildlife but never seen any elk that way
Me and my stepbrother might just wind up hunting near Grand Prairie Don't know he wants a moose
I think he is crazy he got moose right a home , mysalf I'm after my first elk hoping it will be a Nice big bull haahaa

Lived in Grande Cache al together about 12 or 13 years. I never hunted Elk. They seem to require a lot of hiking in remote areas which the knees don't like. A lot of the area there is trophy only but there are other areas more towards GP. To be honest I never saw a Bull in 13 years. Cows all the time. They would even come up and eat on the lawns in the down town core around the shopping area. not often but enough. Lots of Big Horn but again you mostly saw them on mine property. In Fact during the rut they would block the roads up to the shop and butt heads. Had to watch out some times would turn on the pickup. Hinton bigger Big horn On coal mine sites but again they didn't seem to leave the sites much.
 
Thank for the information had a bit of a change in plans me and my stepbrother have to move his auntie to Fort saint John she and here late husband owned a farm out side of F.SJ.
She is going to introduce us to all the farmers up in that part of the Country
 
Seriously considering one of these for the trapline. Have no ATV or the like at the moment as a lot of the line can be accessed by truck. Was looking at regular atv or sxs which would do but a Rokon would take me into some tighter rougher spots and really open up the line for me. Throw in a trailer and I can handle any work or job that needs to be done. Kinda disappointing there's no dealer in Quebec as I would really like go check some out.

I can get two Rokons plus a wall tent hunting gear and a moose in the back of a Dakota pickup and still be able to look out the back window
I mite get a Argo scout 6x6 next year but that's more for moose hunting and trapping beaver and muskrats
The Rokons with the Honda Motor would be nice to have I heard of one guy who packed a Rokon on his Argo ther wear not many places he could not get into with those rigs but combined would be pretty awesome slow but nevertheless still awesome
 
Do the Argo's work well? They seem to have been around for ever but you never see them....probably due to living in the mountains though.
They look like the would be good for wet areas.
