Does anyone know much about these rifles? I have a chance to pick 1 up in the calibre 7X64 which I understand is quite similar to the 280 Rem. This rifle has a mauser action with the big claw extractor, hinged floor plate, stepped barrel, and a safety that is in safe when pushed ahead and in fire when pulled back. It is on the bolt shroud. This rifle is very light and seems to be of excellent quality. I can find no reference to it or pics on the net. I know pictures would help but I have none. I can find pics of what I think are newer Heym rifles but none like this one. I should also add that it is not drilled a tapped for scope bases but has the integral dovetails milled on the receiver. Any ideas?

and yes, send him pictures.

I have a Heym 30-06 with full length stock built on a commercial action. Not entirely sure what the model designation is.
I also have a Mauser 3000 (7mm Rem Mag) that is built by Heym for Mauser.
There are different qualities of Heym rifles in fit, finish and value.

Heym is a very well respected and long time German manufacturer. They made only good quality guns, but of course the model range and specifications vary quite a bit, when a company has been in business a few generations. If you like the rifle for how it fits you and how it feels, buy with confidence, you will not be disappointed with the construction or function.

Are you sure it is a Heym ? The dovetails milled into the receiver and the safety sound more like a Brno ZG 47.
You may be right, it has FW Heym on the barrel and it also has what I thought was Z647 but it could be ZG47 I didn't have my proper glasses with me. Still a quality piece?

odds are - yes..nice rifle.
I have one old Mauser with a 30-06 Heym bbl - shoots like a laser. Wonderful rifle. It may be a Heym built or it may be a Heym bbl on an old Mauser action with a double trigger.
It came with 2 Hensoldt scopes in claw mounts -- one large diameter glass (8x56 if I recall) and the other a normal type hunting scope. All nice work done in Europe for sure.
All rifles may have an issue tho. Cannot tell without information and looking at it.

ZG 47's are one of the very best improved Mauser actions ever made. Heym is one of the best commercial barrel makers in the industry. If you have a Heym barrelled ZG-47, then it is a good rifle.

Gun shows or if you can find it Hirtenberger, RWS or someone like me that has more than enough to last. ...and yes 280 decades before the 280 came out in any incarnation, be it 280, 7mm Express. If I recall 1917, but you can look that up on the internet. Load data is very close, if not the same as 280 Rem . Several years ago Remington brought out a run of 7 x 64 and someone may still have some.

The rifle is indeed a ZG47. I do not have a metric tape but I think it is a 22 inch barrel. That is what I measured with an imperial tape measure. The number 59 is on both the barrel and action which I believe is the date of manufacture. The same serial number is on the barrel and the action The action is not marked BRNO but it is marked ZG47. The stock does not have a schnable forend and it is skip line checkered. It has a Heym barrel and is so marked in 7X64, this is a light rifle. It also has a push button removable front sight. Any idea of the market value?

Heym did make rifles with ZG-47 actions but stocked with skip line checkering as you mention and marked with the Heym name. I have seen photos of some from Europe but have never seen one in person. Some also have double set triggers. I believe you are looking at a ZG-47 auctioned Heym rifle.

For interest sake it is worth noting that Parker Hale also used ZG-47 actions, in their "Hussar" model.

I think photos would be needed to figure out the value based on the exact model/variant and condition.
