Hi Folks, I want to buy a good air rifle for plinking or hunting. I'm not sure if I should go with the .177 or the .22? Probably in .22 (for hunting...) I did a some research, but I need your opinion between the Weihrauch HW97 and the MK3 TX200... Any advice? Thanks!

Not much of an advice (or review)... but I do have a crush on the TX200 in walnut :p

For field target (spring/piston) it's the rifle to beat.

I don't think you can loose getting either one.(I have a HW97KT in .177)
Reports are that the Tx200 is smoother out of the box than the 97.
I have tried a couple of different combinations of springs and seal kits in my rifle, not because the factory set up was bad, just because I like to tinker.
My gun is shooting a very consistent 860fps with JSB Exact 8.4gr 4.52mm pellets.
I have not shot the TX200 but have 15,000+ pellets through my 97 and it still impresses me.(it's heavy though)
In the field (hunting/plinking) I use a two shoulder backpack type sling to carry it.

That's a really nice setup you have there. Where did you buy it?
BTW, Thanks for the info...

I picked the rifle up from Specialty Shooting Sports(they shipped it) They are great people to deal with.
The rifle has an extra set-back trigger installed, sling swivels,Maccari/vortec combination spring/seals, droop rail(not needed but good for distance)aluminum cocking handle(not installed in pics),Leapers/UTG 8-32x56mm side parallax scope, and scope level.

Specialty Shooting sports has a clearance sale of Weihrauchs........Is it true the TX-200 carbine only has a 9.5" barrel or is that a typo ? Full sized 13" and change Lothar Walther barrel........Harold

I have owned both an HK-97 Blue Laminate in .177". and an Air Arms TX200MKIII in .22". Both are nice guns, but I prefer the TX200MKIII myself. Definitely go .22" for small game hunting, I have killed ground squirrels at over 40 yards with head shots with the TX200MKIII..

I've had the HW97K, HW77K, TX200 III, and TX200 HC. If I was to choose only one of them it would be the TX200 III. All these are very well made springers, but the Air Arms rifles are a little smoother shooters, and their stocks and bluing are not matched by the Weihrauchs.

it's a tough decision to make... I've only shoot the HW97K and it was amazing... But now with all the comments, I think TX200 MKIII in .22 cal would be my first choice... air gun source have one for sale at 729$... mmmmm, decisions, decisions...:runaway:

I don't think you will be disappointed. I love my Hw97KT Blackline. Mine is .22 also and fitted with a Vortek kit. 15.9 fpe.

Grab yourself some H&N Field Target Trophy pellets, mine gobbles them up in 5.53 head size. Mine also sports a Hawke scope. Hawkes Chairgun ballistic app is very helpful along with the help of a chrony to get exact speed numbers and really dial in that scope.
Happy shootin'
