Do you need to limit your mag tube for hunting grouse in BC?

If i'm going grouse hunting would I need to limit my mag tube like you would for ducks in BC?

Yes

It is quite clear in the regulations. (See page 17)

4 - It is unlawful to hunt or trap with a set gun or with a pump, repeating or auto
loading shotgun unless the magazine contains a plug that is incapable of holding
more than 2 cartridges. Where the use of a shotgun is allowed for hunting or
trapping big game, an unplugged shotgun holding more than 2 cartridges and firing
single projectiles only (slugs) may be used

Waterfowl is by international treaty, the hunting of upland game is not.

Check the regs, but I do not think there are mag limits for shot gunning grouse in BC. Or maybe there are.

Fwiw, I hunt a few every year, but am not normally a shotgunner. But the only time I normally put the plug in is when shooting at geese.
Waddya know. I am supposed to use a plug when using buckshot, but don't need one when using slugs!
Good thing I don't use the buckshot for hunting.

Lucky you haven't been tagged by a co with an unplugged shotgun while hunting chickens.....

Birdshot- plugged to 2
Buckshot-plugged to 2
Slugs only-no plug needed for hunting.

Lucky I hunt chickens with a .22. Or, really really rarely, grandfathers Double, but hardly at all beyond enough to not be able to say I never use a shotgun...

The shotgun is for things that annoy the livestock and otherwise go bump in the night or day, for which I am excused paying any attention whatsoever to "hunting" regs, by other Acts on the books, which allow me the use of vehicles, lights, unplugged guns, and a few other things that would otherwise cause me misery should I do them while hunting. Section 25, iirc of the BC Wildlife act, pertains.

Like I said, I pretty much only need a plug for geese.

The next person who rolls along is likely to take the remainders anyway.

If they are all dumb enough to wait around while everyone gets shot, then they get the Darwin award.

I took 4 yesterday with a .410 single. Had to go back to my bike to get more shells after the first 2. The other two waited as I struggled to get my ammo box out and opened. So they got shot.

No need for a repeater, much less an unplugged tube.

If I'm not mistaken 2 round only applies to migratory birds and big game
Not small game like grouse and rabbit

What about raccoons and coyotes you cant tell me you guys are limiting your salf to 2 rounds

Boo posted it in post #2

DOesn't matter what you are hunting with a shotgun, if you are using shot, you must limit magazine to 2 rounds. Using slugs you can have as much as you want.

No, I don't, and I don't see any similarity between the two situations. I don't know a single other hunter who doesn't legally shoot what presents itself.

Point me to studies that show grouse numbers are positively influenced by not shooting the whole covey and I'll take it into consideration.

Furthermore, how in the hell would one ensure that they are leaving a breeding pair? Chances are you'd be leaving a couple of males or females.

We haven't become that "progressive" yet, have we? ;)
