Recommend a SxS?

I was looking for removable chokes just so it would work for all games.

I'm looking for solid and functional, but not fancy/expensive.

I'm down to looking at CZ or the Churchill. I have to find one to hold first, however. I'm left handed, which makes things fun

Hmmm... You're going to have problems getting one with a left handed cast... I was going to suggest a Baikal, fits your bill and has a single trigger, however, it has a strong right hand cast. Too bad about chokes, the gun dealer has a nice used Bernardelli for sale, and the price is right. You could own a piece of Hemingways heritage.

I have the itch for a 12ga SxS just to use at clays when I'm feeling anachronistic.

...

I'm an enthusiastic, yet casual shooter. I don't compete, I don't hunt, I don't have kids to pass an heirloom grade gun down to, ...

...

Are the Boito/Stoeger guns Good Enough?

...?

Yes.

I am going through the same struggle as you!

I asked Prophet River about the Daudson's and they said that the quality is equal to or better than other shotguns in the ~$600-$1200 price range for side-by-sides. They handle the warranty themselves which is good news. The chokes appear to be fixed IC/IM or so, which is a fairly typical setup.

I haven't fired a CZ Sharp-Tail as of yet but I used to own a Bobwhite and the fit and finish was good and it was a great shotgun. Unfortunately, I just wasn't a fan of the double triggers.

The newer Baikals are solid and dependable.

Perhaps I should just save up for a Fausti or Beretta.

I was just over to the Accuracy Plus website (Peterborough ON), and they have a Midland boxlock listed for $900. Only one photo, but looks like it might be a decent gun.
I was there 2 days in a row this summer while on holidays specifically to look at that shotgun. It is a nice gun, good condition, tight with 2.5" chambers and IC/M chokes.

I had other supplies in hand and would have bought the shotgun had the owner of the shop spent a little more time with me instead of jumping back and forth between customers. I walked out w/o spending a dime.

Don't get too bent for choke tubes. I once had a CZ SxS with tubes and NEVER changed them. Just used IC/M.

Fixed IC/M works very well for a lot of hunting. I would prefer fixed in a SxS and that would open up a lot more options to choose from for you.

True. I could make IC/Mod work for most things.

Resurrecting this one.

I can't find any info on this - Can anyone comment on the Akkar Churchill 512 guns as to whether they are neutral or cast off to any degree?

Bit of a broken record, I know, but it seems the Turkish guns go either way, depending whose brand is on them.

I will second this point... my field guns have IC/Mod tubes in them 95% of the time.

Mine actually looks quite nice, I stripped off the varnish/molasses mixture CZ uses and refinished it with TruOil

My son has a CZ Bobwhite 20 gauge... nice colour to the wood, but not much grain... it went back for warranty twice (Dlask) for punching primers, sticking the pins and locking closed... works great now... nice little gun... it has taken a few dozen grouse and pheasants now.

I have been using Browning BSS shotguns for many years... I have a nice pair of BSS Sporter's now that feel really nice... but not what the OP is looking for.

I don't know if steel is an issue, but a lot of the older fixed choke guns, even in MOD/IC are not really great to shoot steel in.

It's just a clays gun, so no steel

I just need to know if the Akkar Churchill 512 stocks are neutral or cast off to any degree

I've written the manufacturer as well, with no reply
