So I thought I fancy one of these but I keep hearing conflicting reports on them - some people think they're amazing and others are at the total opposite end of the spectrum

Seems like a lot of rifle for the money (it would be the gen 2 enhanced version in either 6.5 or 308 I would consider) and I like the tactical styling but with so many unfavourable reports floating around out there I`m going to look at other options before deciding what to buy

So what else is there out there that fits the criteria I mentioned (6.5 or 308 with tactical styling)? I would consider buying a separate stock to achieve this too if that means I have more options (done that before with other guns)

Savage model 10. Put it in a chassis of your choice. Barrel swaps are a diy job with a savage so you could start with a 308 and get a nice 6.5 prefit barrel....

Interesting.....

I have this idea that a 308 would work nicely to start with (possibly forever) but having the option to switch would be sweet

Isn't the Savage model 10 about to be replaced with a new updated model? I know a guy at work went to buy a Savage 10 in 338 and the guy behind the counter told him to hold off as it was about to be replaced with a newer slimmed down version (much lighter)

Just curious, of the nay say'ers you speak of, how many of them actually own or have owned a RPR?

Funny how I've also seen some strange comments from guys trashing them, but most don't own and have not owned one, my favorite was a comment about how there were a couple for sale on the EE so they must be no good, hmmmm what's that say about the Rem 700??

Oh and I have a Rem 700 too, was just an example of something that is a great gun but any givin day first page of the EE precision section has 4 or more for sale.

This guy is one that tried it and didn't like it: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1409555-To-the-RPR-owners-would-you-buy-it-again

In the interests of balance I have read a bunch of threads on here and there are mixed opinions for sure. I really like the gun and the price point is great I feel but I just don't want to be disappointed with how it performs (the most important aspect really)

I have seen a couple of RPRs at the matches and they seem to do fine. As with almost any factory offering some are going to be better than others. It is not like 700s and Savages are super awesome rifles either. In short you get what you pay for.

For the money I would go Tikka CTR, or get a used build off the EE.

I got a savage 10tr and love it! Here is the thing I drop my 10tr in a mdt lss-xl with mdt skeleton light stock and its awsome to me, I love it. I never handle the Ruger but here the thing: here is a quick breakdown of my build Savage 10tr ( ~650$), mdt lss-xl (~550$), mdt skeleton light (~270$) and ergo grip (~40$). It goes to about 1500$ before tax so about the same as a RPR.

In the end it a depends on what you want, how you want it to look and if you want to build it yourself or have one from the factory.

Pictures?

Surprisingly i don't have any pictures but I got some tomorrow, I was waiting on a mdt rail to mount the sierra 7 bipod I just got. Right now it just got a cheap Cadwell bipod on. I put the s7 on my Blackfeather m14 and de difference was astonishing , the level of stability provided gave me much tighter groups so I can't wait to mount it on my 10TR.

Check out the Remy 5R as well.

Here is another option: http://www.wanstallsonline.com/savage-10-ba-stealth-.308-win..html

Just got my new RPR Enhanced today and just realized it had a badly canted muzzle brake. It is going back tomorrow.

By canted are you talking it isn't timed 100% accurate, as in its needs to be turned one direction or the other? If this is the case, you do realize all you need to do is loosen the jam nut line up the brake and then tighten the jam nut back up.

As far as the hand guard, that was on some of the first ones, and same thing just loosen it off line it back up and tighten, and if still off by a slight hair, won't effect accuracy as the scope doesn't mount to the hand guard, it mounts to the scope rail on top of the receiver.

That's not good. I read a review where the hand guard wasn't centered on the barrel which I imagine would have implications for scope mounting

I'd be curious to hear your opinion on the ERPR when you get it sorted out

Mine hand guard is centered. I would mount the scope on top of the receiver instead on the hand guard.

Yes it is not timed 100% and will try to loosen the jam nut to see if that works.
EDIT: Unable to loosen jam nut. Will just take it back for exchange.
