Who else prefers the 1911 over the Shadow ?

I own an STI Spartan in 9mm and a CZ75 SP-01 Shadow.

When I first picked up the Shadow, I couldn't believe how comfortable it felt in my hands. If it was that comfortable, I couldn't fail to shoot well with it, right? So I bought one...

Now I find myself going back to my 1911 again and again - I just seem to shoot better with it.

To be fair, I haven't done a ton of practice with the Shadow. I just seem to find the Spartan a more natural fit for me, despite the 105-year-old "ergonomics".

Does anybody else have similar preferences/experiences?

I do. I started ipsc with the the shadow for several matches and was enjoying it. I then tried a match 1911 and was hooked. I much prefer the safety over double action and the trigger in my 1911 is a dream to shoot. From a group size perspective, the shadow shoots marginall tighter groups but isn't critical in the ipsc world with its scoring area sizes. Nothing wrong with the shadow. I just prefer my 1911.

I've had a few 1911s, I like their look but shooting it them just reminds me they're not my type. I shoot well with them too but somethings just missing. so between the two I pick CZ.

Funny.....my shadow is one of my never sell firearms...my Spartan .45 too....and yet...they probably get the least range time right now...other 1911's and several striker fired are racking up the miles right now....but it is a glorious day when I take either shooting..

Started with a Glock 17 and hated it. Sold it and moved on to a CZ 75B, much better and scores much improved. Sold that and purchased a Shadow. My scores went up slightly. Purchased two 1911's. One Government full size and one Commander length, love them both and I have since sold the Shadow. The 1911's are chambered in 9mm. I had a 1911 in .40 S&W for awhile but sold that because I like the 9's better and 9mm ammo is cheaper.

I will look for another 1911 .40... I'm a little bit 'meh' with my 1911 9mm...it's not the caliber, I feel like I'm shooting underpowered loads...I know it's ridiculous...but a snappy .40s&w round is hard to beat...jmho

I don't have any issues with 1911s, CZs, BHPs, S&W Gen3s, Glocks, HKs, SIGs or Berettas.
Or Makarovs and Toks.
As long as they go bang everytime I pull the trigger, don't go bang everytime I don't, and hit what I aim at, then it's a good gun!

Hear, hear! Picking favourites is now officially a futile effort for me. I like em all

The CZs are cool because they are a solid gun at a good price but they will never compete with completely custom tuned 2011s just not possible.
Shooting a Lvl 2 match last weekend, I noticed the majority of open shooters were shooting customized CZ Czechmates in 9mm major. I was watching a shooter closely and there is literally no muzzle rise, and witnessed no malfunctions with the 3 shooters in my squad that shot them. I would say that this gun can DEFINITELY compete with a 2011 racegun. I personally enjoy shooting them both. I have a couple 1911's and a SP-01 tactical, with a shadow 2 on order. I wouldn't give any of them up. What I have always enjoyed about the 1911 design is that it is such a pleasure to work with. If one was to ask me which I prefer, I would not be able to give them an answer.

I prefer the 1911 but the Shadow is a nice gun. The shadow 2 is a good shooter; ran a few hundred rounds through one today and it's a step up for sure from the shadow.

I still prefer 1911s but it's basically a "muscle cars vs. Sports cars" argument and whichever floats your boat is fine by me.

You get more for the dollar in CZs, though. I think the Shadow 2 is going to retail around $1500.

There's no 1911 I'd consider its equal for that money.

Started with 1911s but now am shooting my CZ much more. Really love it.
Of course, none of the 1911s are super-expensive tuned race guns.

Love how the SP-01 Shadow I've shot shoots, but for me the grip profile is tiny in my hands and the slide doesn't have much metal for me to grasp (Coming from 1911 and Beretta style slides that are really chunky.) .

The safety/decocker on some of these guns is just f***ed......seeing many a time guys having to manually lower the hammer on their pistols seems to be the one draw back on some models. (Hence the "Rolling Slavex" method of decocking Slavex showed me in person.)

As I've seen and read this all depends on the model you have and what options you chose?

Magazine insertion is far nicer on the Shadow then the 1911 for the most part.

1911 Grip far better in my hands, higher bore axis then a Shadow but it doesn't bother me at all.

I've been around 1911's since I was a child and will always prefer them based on those personal experiences.

My ghetto ass Norinco 1911 Sport.

I love the look and feel of a 1911 but damn I shoot my buddy's CZ75 Shadow so well... pure point and shoot feel to it. I just don't like the looks of the CZ but I am buying one 'cause it'll be crazy of me not to. Kinda holding out for the Shadow 2 but dunno if $400. more is worth it. I shudda bought the Shadow when my buddy bought his for under $900 tax in a few years ago! Stupid me!
