I'm looking to purchase a new rifle chambered in .416 Rigby.

At the moment I have my eye on the Sako 85 Brown Bear but I'm looking for recommendations.
My current budget is 4k.

Thanks.

I have both a Ruger RSM and a CZ 550;
Ruger 2 rounds in Mag CZ 3 rounds
Ruger will jam if you aren't careful feeding the mag
Both shoot equally well
To me Ruger has more felt recoil, I find Rugers and I don't get along
Ruger has better finish
I much prefer the CZ for myself, mainly because of felt recoil

Not the Ruger review I was expecting. I would prefer the CZ in that case aswell.

Is your RSM in 416 Rigby spooksar? And when you say not careful loading the mag, what exactly do you mean? Surprised to hear this about a Ruger RSM.

Cheers

I have an old Brno 602 in the Rigby and I believe it is the perfect rifle in which to house a 416 Rigby, however I would like to look and play with a Dakota in the Rigby, they look like nice rifles for a heavy medium.

That hasn't been my experience with my 416 RSM. Ruger has the advantage that it can close on a loaded chamber so you load the mag with three, drop a round in the chamber, push the rounds in the mag down while you slide the bolt forward and close the bolt on the chambered round. Voila...3 down, 1 chambered.

My friend ,who has since passed away :( ,had a 416 Rigby in a CZ550 and it was so accurate I couldn't believe it. He was a smaller statured man , but shot it like he was twice as big. I am a Ruger fan, and have never owned a CZ, but that rifle was sweet. I think my .375 Ruger feels like it has more recoil than that CZ did. I loved his gun. My vote is for the CZ myself. I'd have tried to pry it from his hands but he had moved away across the country before he died. Great guy and great taste in guns.

Yes it's in 416 Rigby, for some reason as you are putting in the cartridge into the magazine if it's not positioned just right it jams.

Or load one and chamber, drop the plate, put upside down and drop three from the bottom. Close bottom and voila 3 down, one chambered.

My buddies CZ .416 Rigby is much more pleasant to shoot with 400gr bullets than my Win 70 .338 Win mag Classic with 225gr bullets.Moose just vanish out of the sight picture .........bang flop.Harold

Ruger used to make No.1 rifles in .416 Rigby (and might see a limited edition model in this classic caliber in the future? - stainless laminate being my favorite ).

And I really like my Sako 85 Kodiak as well as the Brown Bear you are considering. Mechanical artwork  -

I can do the same thing with my CZ. In fact I can go one better and go 4 down. That's a little crowded but its there.

I've owned the CZ 550 as well as the Ruger RSM in .416 and found the RSM to be somewhat easier to shoot (possibly because of its greater weight). Both functioned 100% properly and both were extremely accurate. The RSM chrono'd 2,400 on the nose with factory Federal ammo (400gr TSX). The RSM accompanied me to Africa in 2013 as my backup rifle where it was responsible for a (lased 244 yard) hail-Mary baboon plus a handfull of other critters (impalas, zebra, Spotted hyena and porcupine). Both my primary and backup wore Trijicon 1-4 Accupoints.
