Owners of Surgeon or Defiance Actions?

I am looking to build a custom hunting/target rig using a custom action. Looking at either the Surgeon 591 or Defiance Deviant(GAP Templar V2) action for my build. I really haven't ever handled one before to know the ins and outs of them and to know what they feel like to compare them to anything else.

Please let me know what you think of it. If anyone in Saskatchewan or SE Alberta has one, I would be interested in having a look at it. I would be happy to compensate you for your time.

Had a Defiance - was very nice; smooth and clearly well made. Have a Surgeon (with Chou Bros at present ) and my initial inspection revealed it to be a very high quality piece. Honestly ( yes, I know this is a lame answer ) you would not go wrong with either.
 
I have a Surgeon, and it's one of the nicest actions I have held.

Perks:

* Integrated 20 MOA rail
* Integrated recoil lug.


These were two criteria I was looking for when buying an action.
 
I have 2 Surgeon actions, one for sale on the EE right now (hint, hint haha) and both are great. They are very smooth, robust and tight actions. They have been a mainstay in PRS almost as long as PRS has been around. That's as much proof I need to know that they are proven and they work.
I have no experience with Defiance but I suspect that they are also a fantastic action as they seem to get great reviews as well.

I have been looking at that a few times haha. I want to go with a 6.5 Creedmoor though so the Bolt face wouldn't match up unfortunately.
 
I have both of the above actions, there is no wrong choice both have integrated lug and rail both are very smooth, both have rem 700 foot print. The defiance has a little more bling to it so to speak but only because it is polished surgeon needs to be coated in some sort of finish in my opinion. I find the defiance a little more customizable just because you can order them in any configuration you wish. But again that's just my opinion.

I agree about the finish. A Surgeon with Melonite coating like the Defiance Rebel would be very nice. I really like the buttery slickness of that Melonite.
 
I've had the Surgeon 591R and it was a great action....super stiff and smooth as butter...

Their bottom metal is very nice as well.....probably the best mag fit of several name brands that I've had, but a proprietary inlet.
 
Surgeon 591 all the way...Eat dirt like fat kids eat cake. Run awesome in the elements. Defiance are shinny and nice to look at but have to tweeked to run in the dirt as well as the 591.
 
Both are quality pieces, so you wouldnt me making a bad choice either way. Im loving my surgeon and cant wait until its back from being coated. Just an FYI. Surgeon Action with custom request for small firing pin and Tac knob from order to in my hands was 2 weeks 3 days. Called Defiance and was told they're looking at a 13 month wait for actions atm.
I know patience is a virtue but mine does have a limit. Just my 2 cents
 
I went with a defiance rebel for the reason that I could have any configuration I wanted. I went with a right bolt, left target port, heavy tang, and a mag well opening to accept double stack AI AW mags. The slick operation was icing on the cake.
 
Damn, just wish I could find someone with a Surgeon in SW Sask that I could try out. Might just have to make the trip up to Lloyd to talk to the guys at Insite.
