How many of you have lost red dots to the SKS scout mount?

I ended up installing a scout mount made by Scout Industries... I put a red dot on it and so far so good...

I've never seen this rail before but I like that it has more real estate than the BC Tactical to mount the red dot further ahead and clear of the ejection path. Will consider doing the ejection port mod as well..

A product that causes one jam weather it's 1 in 20, 3 in 50 or one in 1000 or causes jams more often in rapid fireisn't good enough for gun that generally does not jam. Same for a Scout mount that puts your lens at risk. Not good enough. The BC Tactical scout mount for the Vz 58 on the Vz 58 was perfectly fine for me though. No mishaps on that one. Sks one needs serious revision or they should market it as a micro mini dot mount. It's not fun paying $80 to smash your trs. Let alone $120 to make your rifle malfunction.

Yeah that one would be safe for any red dot. I want one of those.

I appreciate the work and intentions of the companies who make the products in question but I won't pretend something is good when it's not. I've tested two different rails on 3 different rifles that might be some bad luck too but it shouldn't be a gamble to buy these things. I haven't had a chance to test the scout industries mount but it looks good and I plan to and the Choate reciever mount is excellent.

I have had several stovepipes with magwedge rail after the ejection mode as well. In all honesty I wanted to like this rail, but I couldn't. The problems started the day one with the front pin starting to work itself out of position after 40-50 rounds. No amount of loctite would help (for the pin is hollow and loctite wouldn't cure). After two or three frustrating experiences I have replaced the the spring pin with a screw and a nut. This seem to fix the problem. After a few months the holes at the rear section of the rail (where the cover pin is inserted) have been enlarged - the aluminum got chewed up by the steel dust cover pin which had an impact to accuracy. Next, the kwickpin spring ball lost its spring and the ball... Finally, my solution of the front pin issue caused the rail to gave up its host (the steel screw chewed up the aluminum hole causing the front portion of the rail to broke off at the tip so its not usable anymore). So..... I ended up installing a scout mount made by Scout Industries... I put a red dot on it and so far so good...

Shouldve used a roll pin on the front, and only a roll pin. Should've used countersink bolts on each end of the rear pin. I was getting frequent stovepipes with my Magwedge rail until I installed the provided velcro that came with the mount; things worked fine after that.

But I did notice the thin design of the rail allowed it to vibrate (thus blurring the reticle) after each shot. SO I switched it out to a thicker design, the Wartak rail, and it worked rather flawlessly for 800+ rnds... then I made the switch to fixed side mount.

The scout industries mount is nice except the fact that you have to loosen and remove the rail for every cleaning. Windage is adjusted with those screws so you have to adjust the zero from time to time.

Got that problem with mine but I don't always clean the piston and gastube after each use though.

I use a promag side mount just gotta drill and tap 4 holes i used 8-32 hex machine screws.
Its worth the little bit of work and also allows you to use stripper clips and holds zero.
I have a scope on mine so i did the ejection mod aswell , all super easy mods to do and alot of fun at the same time.

Yes and no. Yes you need to remove the rail (and only the rail buy losening the UPPER screws). And no, the windage is adjusted with the LOWER screws which stay in place. Removing and re-inserting the rail keeps the zero.

This is where I am headed with my other sks. I am thinking about weaver converta-mount (the lowest version). Kind of hard to find it appears they discontinued it.

Crazy Ivan makes the copy and likely improved version of the Weaver you posted. They ship to Canada.

P.s. Loved the Promag D&T mount, however after each bolt release I cutted my hand every time. The thing needs has some rough edges that's for sure.

Looks like Ivan continued as soon as weaver discontinued.... :) I am looking for the lowest sitting mount possible. Can't tell from pictures how low crazy ivan made this rail (what is the distance from the dust cover)?
