RANT......Hey Westerners what the hell is a ky-ute?????

I can't take it any longer.......watching Jason Peterson's into the wild last night, and that is how he describes coyotes.....as "KYUTES" WTF? The word is pronounced Ki-yote-e not Kyute. How in the Sam hell did the pronunciation for coyote manage to be butchered that badly.

Ps: not picking on just westerners the yanks call acorns.."Akerns". And how is a roof a ruff????

Sorry if I'm picking on anyone but come on the guy is a TV host, lets at least pretend we can speak proper English.

Rant complete!

Why do you folks from Ontario say a-boot and doot? No doot a-boot it!

A little history of the word to blunt your eastern-centric rant. The original pronunciation is "ky-ote". "Ky-oh-tee" only crept in because of the cartoon character Wyle. E. Coyotee. Generations of kids grew up watching the Bugs & Road Runner Show and heard it pronounced "ky-oh-tee" so often that it stuck. The dictionary " -tee" pronunciation acknowledges this commonly used bastardization of the original (words evolve for all sorts of reasons) and without an explanation you might be fooled into believing it is the real one.

Of course, as has been noted, Ontario people and city folk are more likely to use the "ky-oh-tee" version which could mean those two demographics watch more baby cartoons than the rest of us.

It is when you're a westerner.................but don't worry cause most people I know distinguish between easterners and maritimers.........we generally get along OK with maritimers....

Ontario is only not considered eastern when you're from Ontario..........then it is the center of the universe...........

I tell you what, don't worry about how westerners pronounce coyote, and we won't laugh at easterners for trying to make their deer sound larger by referring to a little 4x4 buck as an 8 pointer.:)

So eloquently put

Ruffed Grouse = Bush Partridge
Sharp tailed Grouse = Prairie Chicken.

Tell em brother. I'd stand behind you in a bar fight for no other reason than you know your chit.

On to the maritimes provinces thing.... out West in God's country we have 2 differentiations.... anything left of the Manitoba/Ontario line is a Westerner and someone we'd go to war for. Right of that.... well... those are foreigners.

my granny was from, the Ottawa valley- we tried to send her back but they wouldn't take her- one o f the worst "Canadian" accents I've ever heard= and she was a teacher, which meant she was SPREADING THE INFECTION Of course, you have define the word "beautiful-" I've been "back east " for seminars and so forth and I DON'T SEE IT

Wow. So because people don't talk the same as you it's evil and an infection? Have you ever traveled around or worked with English speaking people from different countries? It's rather interesting when you have a Canadian, an American, a Brit, and an Aussie sitting at a table. All using the same language just different ways. It's even more fun after a few beers and most sentences have to be repeated because you didn't understand what they were saying.

As for the East vs West thing... grow up.

BC, AB, SK, MB, ON, QC, NB, NS, NL (and the others), share a proportionate number of slobs, dickheads, azzholes, and also top notch outdoorsmen... we are all Canadian... and as it is in all of our best interest to protect our hunting/firearms heritage, I'd suggest that we cultivate unity and not division... highlight our similarities not our differences.
