Just bought my new Tikka T3 ARCTIC ! (Civilian version of the Ranger's new rifle)

I discovered this week that Tikka is just starting to sell a Ranger-similar version of their T3 CTR, called T3 ARCTIC. I bought one yesterday and tried it today. I love it.

Very light, very accurate, compact, I look forward to go hunting with it in a few days.

See attached pictures (I remove the "iron" sight, to install a scope on the Picatinny rail), including first grouping at 100 yards.

Warmly recommended.

I bought it at Dante Sports in Montreal (they had 2 in stock, one left). It was my first time there, wow, great service, I was impressed. If you go, ask to see Boris, a real pro.

I can't get over the price of these...... I was actually thinking of buying one when they came out (I used to be a ranger).......

No offence meant, as I am sure you have not had time to develop a load or see what factory ammo your rifle likes yet, but my ruger scout with Rem Corelokt 180's would make that group look huge...... and is as durable, has the same configuration options etc. at $1500 less.....

The rifles don't come with extra mags or a hard case like the ranger ones will..... and the government is slated to pay $2800 per rifle with hard case, extra mags, etched logo on the stock and training provided....

Now, the above being said, I know that folks are being held by the stones on these as it's a "now or never" purchase..... and if you really wanted one, and you jumped on the opportunity, good work..... I have paid stupid prices on guns before for now or never purchases..... and I am sure those groups will tighten up......
 
Looks more like a club than a rifle. High arctic,likely to make long shots, what were they thinking ? Not even a suitable camo finish. :confused: Better ways to spend your money.

Saw one in Cabelas a couple of days ago. Glad you are happy with your purchase, but I am afraid that they are hosing everyone with the price of those rifles. They just are not $2000+ guns.

Too much emphasis is put on camo...... and the rifle was designed for the rangers, who wear red at all times....the rifle was designed for pest control (polar bears)......

x2. The Lee Enfield isn't exactly a camouflaged rifle either!

I handled the prototype up in the Yukon, and I instantly fell in love with the rifle. I saw the price on Cabelas, and fell out of love! I'm probably going for a T3 Varmint in 300 WSM. 999!

You guys both know that the rangers aren't all in the high north right? There's rangers all over the north. I'm in bc but I know Rangers in hudsons hope, vanderhoof, Prince George, Fort Saint John. Those are just guys I know in person and can think off of the top of my head. I doubt any of them have ever seen a polar bear or been to the Arctic. Honestly I think it's a perfect rifle.... Ugly and a brutal price tag though.
 
Personally, I think they're quite a nice rifle with zero faults (price isn't that high for a quality limited edition rifle). However, my T3 Battue will do everything the Ranger Rifle will do, and so I can't justify one in my safe.
 
Sweet gun!! I see others have given you a hard time about price and groups, and they aren't really wrong, but its a small opportunity and the rifle you wanted, if your happy with it and not buying and selling $600-1000 rifles for the next 15 years to find your "unicorn" then you've done it.

I went through an A-bolt, Mauser 96, Enfields, savage 16, tikka and finally a Steyr manlicher which might be the final one!
 
The colour was not an oversight. It was intentional on DND's part and for the purpose of identifying the rifle as belonging to the rangers (like the red they wear). Civi's may or may not like that, but it wasn't designed for the commercial market. As far as price, yes it is a bit of a hose down, but bear in mind that a great deal of development and durability testing was performed to meet the ranger requirement. The gun has proven durability that has been evaluated and confirmed far more thoroughly than for most commercial rifles out there and, for some, that is worth something.

The OP posted about his excitement and joy over the Tikka. As long as he is happy, let's not ruin his thread with negative comments.
There are other threads where those issues are already discussed ad infinitum.
Congrats OP and have a safe hunt! Let us know how the rifle performs in the field.
 
It's a neat rifle, I'll agree with the folks that don't think it should command that sort of premium.
It's like the $400 Ruger American and it's $1600 precision target dressed up version.
