Hello,

I don't need a new gun but I want one.
I want a 5 inch slide that I might try in IDPA (without optic). I am used to the nice trigger of the PPQ and I know that I will have to spend a few $$ on a Glock to make it as nice (or close), probably the same thing for the sights!
Never had a Glock, so maybe the 34 would be a nice first one.

I keep changing my mind...so any suggestions, besides buy both and keep the one you prefer!!!!:p
Thanks
OK

Glock 34 or Walther PPQ M2 Q5. I have owned both. I no longer have the Glock 34. Why you ask, because it can't come close to quality and accuracy that a Q5 is capable of right out of the box. Check a previous post that I made about the Q5 http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1464031-Walther-PPQ-vs-H-amp-K-SFP9/page3

I've been told there are currently NO magazines for Walthers available at at least one distributor - check on mag availability, it would suck not to be able to shoot due to not enough mags.

So if you want a match grade pistol with a mounted red dot are these the top 2 offerings?

My wallet is getting twitchy since I saw the Q5......

Right, everything for Walther is always harder to get than Glock products......one good thing though is that these optic ready ''competition'' gun all come with 3 mags instead of 2, and you can always import from the US.

My take: Skip the Q5 & the G34, and go straight to the superlative CZ SP2 Shadow. They are that good...

Unless he wants something that also mounts optics.... IDPA is supposed to be concealment based, so a 5 inch slide is a lot of metal. I also find a heavier pistol rides poorly in concealment holsters. The one nice thing about Glock: lots use them, so you can always borrow a mag or spare holster if you forgot yours!! I see that happen every second or third match.

Only had the chance to shoot my Q5 once but the trigger and ergonomics are way better than my glock (17gen4).
The side of the frame where your thumb sits is slippery and makes it seem like it has more muzzle flip than it actually does... I have fitted mine with some grip tape to address this (haven't been out to try it yet)

Good point PE!
The all steel CZ SP2 would be heavier, but you might have better recoil and faster on target. I see many IDPA shooters use all steel 1911's too. My IDPA gun would be the G17.

Shadow 2 is too heavy for IDPA.

The Shadow 2 is heavier than a 1911 and I read somewhere that it wouldn't be accepted for IDPA, I think it has to do with the thickness and the box.

May I suggest the new German Sig P226 LDC? Looks like it would make one heck of a competition platform. Eventhough it doesn't have your required 5'' slide, I'm pretty sure that it would actually be a tad faster to draw, probably a bit more accurate than the Q5 and definetly more accurate than a G34.
