I am looking to buy a semi-auto in 308. I would like to buy the 'best' available. Money is no issue in my decision, within reason. External looks take a back seat to accuracy, functionality, ability to customize and find aftermarket parts for it among other factors.

I'm pretty much only trying to decide between an LRB-M25, ATRS Modern Hunter and a Rob Arms XCR-M.

I would be open to considering other ones as well, so any suggestions are very much welcome.

Please let me know your thoughts and opinions.

Thanks!

are you looking more for precision or reliability?

For reliability I would go with an XCR-M
-takes sr25 mags
-reliable
-fairly accurate
-good used market for them

For precision I would go with the Modern Hunter. I have only taken mine to the range once so far, but I can tell from research and my personal experience that:
-Capable of 1moa or better accuracy
-likely not reliable in "dirty" scenarios
-Finicky with ammo
-cool factor through the roof, but expensive
-very few for sale used

Both are very ergonomic firearms, and put a huge grin on your face :)

Never pulled the trigger on a Modern Hunter, but the XCR-M is a solid choice in my experience (never owned one but have shot hundreds of rounds through them). The RFB isn't bad either, nice and compact, but no redeeming features beyond that. Construction quality is not on par with the XCR IMHO.

Something that I forgot is the Famae SG542, they can be had for a fair price even new now. The mags can be finicky and pricey for spares, but other than that they are great rifles. I don't know what kind of accuracy they are capable of.

In my experience the XCR-M is more accurate, especially with the heavy barrel. The biggest advantage it has over the FAMAE is the fact that the barrel is free floated from the factory. Magazines are also an issue to consider... the XCR has cheap magazines available, PMAGS work just fine, and you don't usually see PMAGS that need altering to work properly. That said, I would say that the design of the FAMAE does lend itself to being more reliable, and I find the FAMAE better balanced than the XCR.

I agree with all of that. Have you held the newer XCR rifles with the light profile barrels and keymod handguards? They are pretty well balanced, and quite light as well.

Another factor you did not mention is time.

I would not choose any of your mentioned options, I would rather wait for the MDR or the APC.
But if I must, out of your three I would only consider the LRB.

When might these become available in Canada? do you think they're a better choice then the LRB?

Depending on where your location is, someone might be willing to let you try theirs. I recommend and love my used XCR. Add to the other features the great product support wolverine offers, and the option of other calibre swap outs.

In this category the FNAR is simply untouchable, they run around 2000.00 can dollars and both of mine were easy sub MOA with a tailored load...

Someone who is craving for accuracy can hardly do better for the same price point with anything else...
Here is my best result ever with one of my FNAR, this is 25 shots consécutives at 100 yards on 5 different targets on the same sheet of paper...

This add for 5 groups all sub .75 MOA... And close to .5 MOA ( never reached that goal with any of my FNAR)...
For one who is looking for an extra precise NR SA rifle just been given serious food for thought...

Many trial and error but at the end these FNAR delivers... JP.

FNAR is ugly , a PITA to disassemble and mags were also very expensive..

Battle proof??????

but yes more accurate if it' s really needed, it' s the only advantage..

Ive owned/own

-RFB
-M305/LRB M25
-FAmea 542
-XCR-m

-the RFB was a jamomatic, with poor accuracy. It took a lot of fidling to get sorted out, I was never realy happy with it

-M305.... Everything... everything is wrong with them. Bad parts, bad (average) accuracy, bad construction... its not that you can't fix them.. but you will always be tinkering

-LRB smooth, god accuarcy, but you still need to tinker, and man its a huge money to buy one

Famea 542 IT feeels good, its not that heavy, I want to say "BUY THIS ONE". But.... it kicks like a mule; it brused my cheek firing it. It will eat any ammo, but if you want better then minute of pie plate you need to find a good load, and usualy thats something expensive

XCR-M I love mine, but it ####ing heavy. IT needs heavier pills but will do alright with 147's if you use hot ammo like nork that fires at 2700 FPS and averages 2-2.5 MOA. MFS, PMC, barnels it all clocks in around 2500 FPS out of this gun and its 3-5 ish moa
