Used to be lots of parts kits available at one time, from broken up M 16s, very reasonably priced.

I will play, and this thread is in need of some more pics to keep er going strong!
Here is my Colt SP1 also from 1976, I got this rifle off the EE a few years back for a great price and have loved it ever since, its light, handles well, low recoil, and has never jammed or given me any issues! I even had it out to one of Tactical Teachers CQB clinic's in September it was great time and nice to finally get it out to a new range.
And here it is with a friend.
