So a friend of mine's wife wants to give her husband a rifle for his 40th birthday. He's gotten back into hunting and its time to complement his ancient 94 winchester with something a little more modern.

He likes the traditional wood & blued look, and .308 winchester would be his caliber of choice. I think something with a 20 inch barrel would be ideal, but up to 22" would be considered.

Summary Criteria: Under $1000, Blued, Wood, .308, bolt action, 20 or 22" barrel

So.....what say you gunnutz?? .

I'm going to don my nomex suit and say a previous generation tikka t3. Could go lite, or varmint, depending on his carrying tolerance.

Lots of options to customize, sub MOA accuracy, great value all around IMO.

There's still some around at clearance prices, which will save some $$ for glass....

I'm the BLR guy, he's a little old fashioned for a 40 year old. Thinks they look too futuristic. Hence the wood / blued bolt desire. Me, I'm all about my stainless / laminate BLR in .358!!!
