Beautiful rifle.
They were fairly easy to find in the eighties. LA Cowboy is right on, many were imported back then, came with rifle, matching bayonet and even a target from factory testing. Three grades came in, can't remember what they sold for. You see them still in varying conditions, but some nice ones still show up. I've owned quite a few. There is a great research database on one of the forums that includes known serial number ranges actually diverted from delivery to Portugal to the Wehrmacht to make up for the catastrophic losses of the eastern front (I believe most are in the H block, can't remember for certain). Love that deep contract Mauser blueing.
I think I glanced at your post before you edited, I would not believe any stories of hand picking these immediately after the war. More likely hand picked off a shelf at Lever. Regardless, beautiful rifle, thanks for showing.
