375 Ruger

. but it's still an answer to a question nobody asked and has it's disadvantages over the H&H with few advantages that I can see.....
This Fudd does like the 375Magnum in the H&H version and have owned 3 or 4 of the same over they years. :dancingbanana:

Having said that, I have to ask what disadvantages does the Ruger have over the H&H?

Got some stats to prove that?..... Or is this just what is said at a the Wednesday night dancing banana cult meetings before the Kool aid gets passed around?

I believe Ruger discontinued one, if not two models in the .375 Ruger.... But I am sure the Mossberg and Savage variants will be wildly successful.... After all, when I think of guys who want to do Africa or travel to Alaska or BC to hunt that reload or don't mind tracking down expensive and difficult to find ammo, the first two manufacturers that pop into my head to supply them with rifles are Savage and Mossberg.......

Truthfully speaking, it's a good cartridge, and as a guy that loves the Ruger scout / guide gun / Alaskan type platforms I think it would make a good combo....... but it's still an answer to a question nobody asked and has it's disadvantages over the H&H with few advantages that I can see.....

Well spoken Brad and the 375 H&H LOOKs Way Kooler too ! And it has a Belt too ! ;) RJ

Mag capacity is typically one....... although I am sure at the Wednesday night meeting they would tell you just firing one round causes everything within earshot to run and drop dead at your feet......

Another (but to be honest, one I didnt experience when I tried one), is clunky feeding....... but I must say the example I fired didn't seem to exhibit it.......

People on both sides defend their cartridge choices like they invented them. I just don't understand that.
I have no love for plastic stocks but I do like the looks of the op's gun. My African could use a diet but I'd rather take the weight from the barrel end, about a half a pound would do.

I would be four-letter-me surprised if less H&H cartridges are manufactured and sold worldwide than .375 Ruger. I'd also believe in the US alone it's possible more .375 Ruger has sold in recent years as everybody buys a few boxes with a new rifle, and the rifles are in America's favourite flavour; cheap.

Completely agree...... on all counts...... except plastic and stainless have their place in some locations.....

Well, Superbrad..................................................................................................................................
I just pay attention to some stuff that takes place int he gun industry. It's easy to see how the popularity of the Ruger has skyrocketed and the H&H is static at best.

I believe Ruger discontinued one, if not two models in the .375 Ruger

Ruger currently has 3 models chambered for the New King= Hawkeye, Guide and African.

.

You can get 375 Ruger ammo delivered with one phone call. Does that seem too difficult for you?

Lots of BC and Alaska hunters use Savage and Mossberg firearms. I know of more than one grizzly that have been shot with Savage and Mossberg firearms....................................:)

One can never have too much ammunition, but a mag capacity of 3+1 is not uncommon for magnum cartridge rifles. The M70 H&H is 3+1 as well, whereas some Euro H&H's have deeper bellies on them and larger magazines for more ammo. But 3+1 still gives you twice the capacity of a double rifle. ;)

Another (but to be honest, one I didnt experience when I tried one), is clunky feeding....... but I must say the example I fired didn't seem to exhibit it.......

A few years ago Ardent suggested that the Ruger wouldn't feed flat meplat bullets. So I put some flat meplat bullet shells into my 375 Ruger and made a video of me operating the action with ease, using just my finger and thumb. Theory shattered!! :) We hear this "feeding" nonsense all the time and my response is always the same- they figured out how to make bottleneck cartridges feed a long time ago. It stands to reason that if the Ruger won't feed due to not having the long taper of the H&H, then NONE of the other cartridges that look similar will feed either!

H&H ammunition actually should outsell the Ruger, as it's had a 100 year headstart, but not new rifle sales. New rifle sales of 375 Ruger are outpacing any other .375 caliber cartridge.

Add Nosler to the 375 Ruger list!

But again, I didn't say anything about ammo sales. Just new rifle sales. WIth a 100 year head start, the H&H should still sell lots more ammo, I'm not sure where you got the idea that I was talking about ammo sales?

Well done angus..... and as far as ready to go ammo (for the Mossberg and savage guys), I was only able to find Hornady and one other manufacturer who's name escapes me at this point...... it was certainly obscure....

So still no stats to support the "booming" sales of 375 ruger?....... "new rifle" sales will do.......

And that list is too complimentary for the .375 Ruger, as the volumes of the major global manufacturers are ignored there and the .375 Ruger's manufacturers are largely boutique aside from Hornady. In another hundred years we can see if the Ruger's caught up, but by then hunting won't be what it is today. Personally think the H&H has already won.

And why do we argue these things so stridently? It's fun to have a "team", and what else does one do on the internet? Bartell don't answer that.

You won't find exact sales stats from gun makers for the most part. If you pay attention though, you can pick up on some statements that the rifle makers make and keep your eyes open, you can see sales trends developing.

It won't take 100 years. 10 more years and the H&H and Ruger will be more like the 30-06 and 308. In 20 years it will be like the .300H&H and the 300WM.

Don't mind me just learning selective point making. :dancingbanana: All in good fun, as mentioned the Ruger did great from a guide's perspective. I'd prefer a client packs an H&H only because I can resupply / replace his ammunition, but after that it's the same bullet going to the same place.

I did...... I watched the originating company that created the rifle and named it after itself discontinue two models....... In the sales and marketing world "statements" don't get bolder than that.......
