Hunting season is wrapping up here in Sask and this is a thread I like to start at this time of year. What new gear did you try this year and did it work as advertised?
Here's my list:
Tikka t3 7mm rm, worked great, took 1 shot while hunting and anchored a nice wt buck at 250 yards.

Barnes 140gr ttsx- did just what it's supposed to. No bullet to recover.

Bushnell fusion 1600 range finding binos - very impressed. Optically excellent and was ranging trees over 1800 yards away. Definitely a good buy if you want a long range range finder.

Work sharp guided field sharpener - I really like this sharpener. Has coarse and fine diamond hones, coarse and fine ceramic rods and a leather strop. I already have the worksharp electric Sharpener and this works well in conjunction with it and is great to keep in the pack for touch ups.

That's all I can think of that I tried for new gear this year. What has everyone else used for the first time?

Switched over from fixed broad heads (G5) to mechanical ones (NAP Spitfire 3 blade) and have a freezer full of venison to show for it, so I'd say it worked!

1. Slick Trick broadheads - these were great. Shot two deer, excellent accuracy, penetration and performance.

2. Badlands Black Jack fanny pack - this was great for treestand hunting.

3. Meindl Perfekt hunting boots - great boots, warm with very little break-in required

4. Suunto Traverse watch - great for the outdoors/fitness

5. Buck Paklite 141 skinning/gutting kit - awesome knives. Simple, lightweight, durable and very easy to use

Decided to take the SKS out this year. Shot a doe at 235yrds with Barnaul HP's. Worked very well, and I'm impressed with that ammunition.

1- Mystery Ranch Cabinet Framed day Pack- Excellent build quality, lots of room for gear that i need for the day. Load shelf is handy for hauling in gear.

2- Nikon Monarch 4-16 scope- Clarity in lower light conditions is fantastic, also a very solid construction. Once again a solid scope from Nikon, I've yet to be disappointed by them yet

3- Work Sharp Electric sharpener- Awesome knife sharpener, shaving quality edge in 5 minutes on anything I've sharpened

4- Sitka gear Pantanal bibs, core heavyweight hoody, and dakota vest- Happy with this purchase as well. Build quality is solid, bibs are actually waterproof, weather is not an issue while wearing this stuff. Worth Every dime.

I've had a pretty positive experience buying hunting gear this fall, haven't had to return anything yet!

Not much for me just a 1970 unimog s 404 ,outfitter tipi tent, and trade for a HS Percision 7mm RM oh ya a 30foot ex- commercial fish boat

But just my luck no time to use them this year next year it's all Quality ultralight camp gear ,packraft, and rifle

Bought a Bear Cruzer compound bow this year as I wanted to get into bow hunting. Sluiced a grouse at 15 yards with it in early September, so I'd say it was a good buy... also picked up a Weatherby Sa-08 in 20 gauge. Took some grouse with that as well. Nice shotgun.

Cabelas Guidewear 4most inhibit
I wore one such shirt while bicycling (almost) daily during the summer and it did acquire a metallic smell but no stench. Didn't wash it for 3 (hottest) months.

Lightweight Helley Hansen rainwear. Roll it up and it stuffs in my pack and is good for everything from June commercial salmon fishing on the West coast, a September 1 blizzard in the alpine mtns. of BC to the wet windy shores of Boundary Bay duck hunting November 1.

CanAm 850 Outlander Max XT and Rotweil Exact 1 1/8th ounce 3 inch slugs . Chiappa Alaskan 12 inch '92 model levergun .44 mag with Leverevolution ammo . Benelli M4 with a T2 Micro . Havalon knife . 3 Ameristep Bone Collector ground blinds . 2 - 2 man Denali ladder stands . Fujinon binocs with rangefinder and compass . The freezer is full .

Badlands Monster waist pack. Highly recommend for day trips for less restriction and not as hot as travelling with a backpack. Carried lunch, water, extra layer, GPS, folding saw, trail marking ribbon, rope, multitool, toilet paper, camera, gloves, wallet, extra ammo and more. Weight distributes nicely between hips and shoulder straps.
Picked up as new Sitka pants from the EE this year and put a lot of miles on them made easier by the give in the spandex. Very happy with those as well.

Coast HL7 headlamp
ice breaker merino undies
Sitka timberline pants

Badlands Monster waist (fanny) pack. With water bladder. Thought not new this year. But after 12+ hours a day wearing it on a summer horseback elk hunt I like this a lot.
On breaks sometimes would forget to take it off.

Toilet paper, and it was impressive.
I have to disagree with you totally, toilet paper is not made for hunting. You must use the tried and true old spruce bough, or a handful of leaves, or you just can not be considered a true hunter. Now go take that toilet paper out of your pack and appoligize for this shameful comment. 😃😜😉

Real Geese Pro Series II Blue & Snow Goose decoys. Had many Snows and Specks cupped and commited over just a few dozen, not an easy accomplishment on Snows. I'd say they worked fine.

Had a bad experience with a brand new Leupold VX-1 rifle scope. Turrets were mushier than half melted ice cream and would not track. Was throwing bullets all over a 24" target trying to get it set up. Back for warranty.

I wore my M65 field coat I got from OPA Extreme out for deer. It was excellent, it kept me warm and dry for my week long trip. It will get put to the test next month for the controlled deer hunt, that will most likely be in the snow.

Decided instead of buying new gear as needed I am going to use up all the sh!t that I have bought and accumulated over the years. So I am wearing and using all the stuff I have turned up in my in my closet and gun room whether it be clothing or equipment. Did buy another pre 64 M-70 and a scope for it that I really needed bad...!!

And it costs 1/3rd what a Sitka or Kuiu rain suit costs. Bloody well works too.
