Mosin recoil...just me?

After firing 80 rounds from my SVT-40 today honestly if the Mosin has too much recoil I suggest getting one of those with the 6 port muzzle break. The recoil is amazingly low and it uses the same ammunition so you are already equipped. No sense being bruised up after you shoot.
So get a different gun or like everyone else suggests quality recoil and or shoulder pad.

Must be an erogonomics thing, i dont mind the recoil but the butt plate is a bit sharp so you should aleast wear a t-shirt. Seen many a guy whinse and moan after pulling the trigger on a mosin. My stiga 30,06 and ruger no1 in 375h&h kick much harder. I get a sore neck the odd time and thats it.
be safe

I'm not going to tell you to stop shooting those rifles but if you are already feeling the pain, next comes disc damage, maybe slight concussion damage but more likely retinal looseness or even loss in sever circumstances. Some people actually can handle the recoil. Some can't. No matter what some like to believe, we are not all created equal.

Fixed it.

Sorry, couldn't resist. :)

But you're right. The Mosin at 13 pounds recoil is no different than: 308, 303, 8mm mauser, 30-30, 7.5x55, 25.06, 260 Rem, 7x57, 7.5x55 swiss, and its less than a 270, 30.06, 300 Mag, 7mm. ....

There is no reason that a small adult male should have a problem with this caliber, a youth or a small lady perhaps but not an adult

You are right bearhunter, read about guys having problems after this started. I have damage from other injuries. When I don't feel up to the recoil I shoot other less powerful rifles.
Everything in moderation, but stop shooting not yet.
Be well

The only time I've ever really felt pain from recoil was when I was new and didn't perfect my form yet. I have been shooting milsurps since day one. I would recommend the "Shoot to live" manual.

Not only did following this make me a decently competent marksman, but eliminated any pain. I can shoot Mosins, enfields, K98's all day with no pain.

If that doesn't work I'd recommend a dose of trybeina.

Give it up, guys. Perceived recoil is totally subjective. When it comes to really heavy calibres, detached retinas are a fact, along with shoulder/neck damage. Long time users of heavy calibre pistols develop permanent damage to their hands and wrists. There is a price to pay for belonging to the "mine is bigger than yours" crowd.

I'm on the Shiloh forum and the heavy hitter BPCRs have done their damage to many a user. Just try and sell a 45-120 compared to a 45-70. There is a reason the 45-70 and 45-90s are the calibres of choice in the BPCR Silhouette game where a COF is 40 rds plus sighters.

Excellent post, very nice share. Now I have something for the kids to read. Thanks.
