Hey guys,

Something is happening here in QC during IPSC matches. More and more we are prohibited from filming during matches. No more Go Pro, phones...

I have never done so but some shooters like to see how they do and what can be improved on etc etc... The explanations given usually refers to concerns with the authorities (SQ) and sanctioning and whatnot. Is this happening anywhere else in Canada ? are we the only province with the police is trying to impede the sport? This might be sensitive since we well know the site is monitored but if anybody can shed light on this I'd really like to know what the F is going on.

Thanks

I don't see how filming could have any effect on the course of fire or outcome of the match. If there is a argument to be made after the stage is done, it has to be made right then and not after someone goes home and reviews their recording. I always have my GoPro on while shooting IPSC. Fun to watch after the shoot and critique my horrible shooting. lol

It has nothing to do with any advantage, I heard our provincial police are giving us a hard time with competitive shooting. I think it's the SQ not wanting guys running around shooting and having fun.

Trying to find that out. It seems to be a Quebec only issue.

'Been to a couple of matches in Ontario where we were told "no video taping". It was a club thing... Fine enough. Their club their rules.
I find it impossible to believe that even the CFO thinks they have the authority to ban photography.
I thinks it stems from respecting that some people are super discrete re. their shooting activities and don't want to risk being "outed" in todays social media enriched world.
Also, maybe some clubs don't want anyone who isn't a member know what the place looks like. Most clubs/ranges are "private".
In any case, If the policy is "no video taping"... Respect it.

Who exactly is "prohibiting" you from filming? Based on what?
I am not trying to sound sarcastic because I feel for you and whatever this nonsense is doesn't seem right.
All people want to do is observe their technique, relive screw ups, or show their friends how fun IPSC is.

If it is a range specific policy or a safety issue I would be fine with it. Perhaps there are some missing details.

Haven't had issues in Ontario and they like to ban all kinds of fun stuff here.

It is common courtesy to ask a stranger PRIOR to filming him.
But I I ask buddy to video me with my own camera, WhyTF would anyone else butt into my affairs and say No?

You're absolutely correct, filming has nothing to do with the outcome of a match. However in Quebec it may have to do with closing a range or forbidding IPSC if used by the CFO as evidence or perception of safety regulation contraventions.

Carl's concern (OP) relates to recent occurrences where the Qc CFO withdrew Club permission to practice/shoot IPSC. It appears the CFO made cases from online videos where infractions to provincial/club safety regulations were observed.

From experience, I firmly believe MDs and Clubs always do their best at ensuring course design compliance to QC safety regulations. Unfortunately the QC CFO issues the capital punishment at the first occurrence rather than taking a helpful/educative approach or issuing a warning. What a beautiful society we live in...

I believe the "risk management" approach is leading to a prudent and cautious "no video" rule.

OK, I could see that...
CFO did NOT ban video, but does use a YouTube vid from a QC club to make trouble.
So clubs ban video to avoid issues...

Thanks that clears things up nicely. I also wanted to know if this is a local issue or if this is the case in other provinces. It's seems to be only the QC Thing. Nice to be in a 'distinct' society... not

I suppose it has nothing to do with the ever increasing amount of people who insist on messing with their go pros when they step up to the line? I can only imagine how frustrating it is for an RO when a shooters focus is on "is this thing on" when their main concern should be not shooting anyone in the foot.

Its either this ^^

Or the guy in charge doesnt want go pro at his match and finds it easier to pass off the blame to the provincial CFO knowing no one will question it.
