Anyone recommend a good factory ammo for the 7mm-08? Just bought one but am not a hamdloader yet.
There all GOOD ! but you need to shoot them in YOUR rifle to see what it likes - It can get expensive to find the right Factory Load ! RJ

That narrows it down!
At 400 yards my 7mm-08 loads are doing 2200fps and carrying 1460 ft/lbs of energy. It is often stated that 1400 ft/lbs is what is needed for elk. So many people under estimate what the little 7 is capable of.
7mm-08 140gr Partition @ 2916 fps
200y zero
400y drop = 20.3", 2158 fps / 1447 ft lbs (what a 7mm Rem Mag would land with @ 550 yards)
*7mm Mag would drop 20.3" @ 430y)
7mm Rem Mag 140gr Partition @ 3253 fps
200y zero
400y drop = 15.8", 2438 fps / 1848 ft lbs (what 7mm-08 would land with @ 240 yards)
*7mm08 would drop 15.8" @ 370y)
I have a 7-08, 7x57, and a 7RM. If I had to ditch one, it would be the 7-08. 7x57 is a classic and outperforms the 7-08 in a modern rifle.
If I could only keep one, it would be the 7RM, recoil is pretty mild, and it will launch the heavier high BC bullets at respectable velocity.

7-08 is a good deer gun
I am only looking to use it for deer hunting. Light bullets in the 130 gr 140 gr range. I have a. 300 Win Mag for anything heavier that needs to be chucked down range.

Hey dude, 100% 7mm08 .... They are wikid, well mannered but Deadly!!!
WL
Nothing wrong with the .300 for deer.![]()
Ok good to know. I have one with a compact 20 in barrel. Shouldn't be too much loss in velocity but better handling in the bush.
Accuracy gentleman.Never do I load for speed.
From my own experience, it's much easier to safely hit 3400fps with a 140gr pill in the 7RM then it is to hit 2900fps with the same bullet in the 7-08.
