So heading to Maui at the end of February and going to take a couple days and do a hunt for Boar and either goat or sheep. Concerned with returning with the cape and skull. I've printed off the info saying that its legal to bring in integument/skull from the U.S. on the Canada customs website.
My plan is to buy a large cooler at Walmart once I get there and then freeze the capes and skulls, place in garbage bag, stick them in the cooler and seal up the cooler with duct tape. My concern is finding freezer space to freeze the capes at the resort condo and that I have a layover in Edmonton of 7 hrs on the return (hoping it wont thaw). Not sure if I will be able to bring any meat back so my plan is to keep some to try at the condo we have rented while there and donate the rest. Any suggestions from those of you who have done this sort of thing before? Of course this is all saying that I'm successful...

Alas, poor Yorick - This thread is not what I thought.

Methinks thoroughly salting everything would be a better idea than freezing. Freezing has a short expiry date and even tho your travel plans may accommodate that timeframe "lost packages" do happen frequently.

Not to derail this thread, at least not completely...but what are your plans regarding a rifle? Are you taking your own, or is the outfitter supplying one?

This sounds like a terrific way to get the most out of a trip to the islands.

Having the taxidermist do it there is a good idea, I'll check with the outfitter he was the one who suggested freezing. A quick google search doesn't bring up much for taxidermists in Maui.
John, I'm bringing my bow but am considering bringing a rifle given the short period of time I will be hunting. The 6nia form is pretty straight forward but I have to register the rifle with the police department which means an extra drive since the PD is pretty far from the resort and we don't get there until 11pm (has to be done between 8-3). I can rent a rifle for $50 but I like using my own equipment so we will see.
I'm hunting with Patrick Fisher at Hawaii Safaris, lots of good reviews online and seems like a really nice guy. He says there are good archery opportunities for the species I'm after. I planned on a boar and billy but might end up going for a sheep instead of the goat. I guess the area they usually hunt for goats was effected by a fire this summer so he is looking for another spot.
