OP is in Ontario....... we don't have 100 pound black tails here.......
Nope you've got 140lb whitetails you never shoot past 100yds as I get from many posts. We also regularly shoot deer that weigh 250-300lbs on the hoof and put on a few miles and many thousands of feet of elevation doing it. So when someone says it's been done, it's effective and I'd do it again then pay attention. Especially if you've never done it yourself.
Modern bullets are not made out of magical unicorn dust...... they still need powder to be propelled and a case and primer.....
I always get a chuckle when I read stuff like this..... guys that have full confidence and preach the killing power of a small bore all while telling stories of all of the huge animals it drops in its tracks like lightening...... but then all of a sudden a grizzly is some kind of magical stop sign...
Again, because their is a difference between talking a calmed down shot across the cutblock at something you'll eat versus having to stop something from eating you at feet in the same cutblock. If you can't grasp it, again it's because you've never been there.
I've used the 22-250 with 45gr barnes just fine. Made holes out both sides and a mess in between. If I was deer hunting the BC interior it'd be a gun I'd grab without issue.
In AB I've got a .243AI zipping 80gr TTSXs that's killed 4 deer now without issue out to 420yds now. All.died very quick and easy. That gun will likely go elk and sheep hunting as well. My daughter has used it to.grratveffect so far.
