I am 72 years old & don't find it too heavy to carry.
I use the diopter sights that came with the rifle. At 60 meters from a bench I can keep ten shots within an inch to an inch & a quarter. If my eyes were good I could likely do better.
I have two of the S&L .22 rifles one was purchased from a friend & I liked it so much I had to have another which I purchased from Tradex. I bought them to use as iron sighted rifles as I have about five other rimfires that all wear scopes.
Get one of the S&Ls while you can. I find them to be an excellent value their triggers are superb & the quality of the barrels are second to none. A very simple design that works extremely well. The Savage are also good & you can buy one of these anytime. The S&L target rifles are no longer being made.
Keep us informed as to which rifle you end up buying, there are a few good ones left on the Tradex site.
I have a match rifle on the way now that Tradeex had left. Don't think it's a model 61 though as I think it's a bit earlier.
Which one did you get? They have a 61 that's missing the rear sight and has scope mounts that I've been eyeing since last Christmas. I'm kind of hoping someone else buys it before I feel like I have too. I think the only thing that's stopped me is that it has a fairly plain stock compared to the one I already have. That and my wife would probably kill me.

i dont know if it is mentioned in this thread but i have one with a broken firing pin any place i can order from to get a new one?
I'd check with Anthony at Trade ex, I believe they have some parts.
Looking at one of the M70s on Trade-Ex, is it alright that the rear guard screw is not original? Will it affect accuracy, etc?
The rear screw in the trigger guard anchors the back of the receiver to the stock. As long as the screw is the correct size for the threads in the receiver it should be fine.
