Vz58 or su 16 fx

My choice is the Vz, but only if the permanent fix for gremlin is applied.

The Su for a casual plinker only is passable. It is lacking in these departments: durability, collectibility ,accuracy (for a 223 as compared with an AR).

VZ. Also, buy it in 7.62x39. I've had both that and the 556 version and the 7.62x39 was more fun (and the mags are better). And I'm a huge 556 guy.

Listen to Pavement Surfer.
Like him I have had VZs in 7.62 and .223 as well as an SU16.

The SU16 is simple and incredibly light.
I suspect most of the suspiciousness against it are due to its incredibly light weight.
Simple to operate, take apart and clean.
Fairly accurate due to the nature of the .223 round itself.
Cheapest clip on sights made by the subcontractor to Lego.

The VZ have a huge aftermarket support.
A mechanical tank. You can club baby seals until your arms tire and still be reliable.
Likewise, very accurate due to the nature of the .223 round.
You can go for the AR style magwell if that is your thing. I prefer the mags it is designed for.

While I didn't have a lot against the SU16 I sold that and kept my three VZs in their various calibers.

I never had the VZ in .223. But I have had a couple in 7.62.

I also had a su16....

I would rather have the su16 in .223 than a VZ.

It is light. More than accurate enough to hit steel At 400m
So no doubt in my mind it could take a coyote within 250m

I never experienced a jam or breakage.

That being said I hated the two screws above and below the magazine release as I would index on then accidentally.

I would pick up another but it would be the lightest folding version.

The gen 1 su16s are junk avoid them at all costs. They are the ones that cracked, had poor accuarcy due to pos sights.

The gen 2s and 2+ sre rock solid. The pin slots were reinforced... the sites were fixed.
The longevity is unreal for the perceived durability. The nutnfancy project has been rocking one for a few years now. They have over 4000 rounds down range and have beat on it in countless shooting run downs with lots of sustained rapid fire and they are still hitting steel at 400m with it.

That being said.
The vz is by far a better built gun, and you can dress it up however you like. the accuracy is maybe just a little worse,
But it is much heavier.... and you probably want to own a few spare parts (like a firing pin) for it because they are notorious for breaking.
the vz is also a lot less optics friendly. And costs much more.
