9.3X62 loads for the guys who want to get beat up!

I've found that 30-06 Winchester brass had a touch more case capacity than privy once both had been fire formed , but the difference was very minor off the top of my head it was less than .5 of a grain of water capacity .

the Winchester brass was unknown used brass from a gun show , the privy was brand new ....both have been reused many times and annealed a couple times .

So I compared 2 cases, a Winchester .30.06 fire formed to 9.3X62, but not resized, and a factory Previ 9.3X62 that had been fired but not resized. The Winchester case weighed 209.6 grs, and the Previ case weighed 201.2. The difference in capacity in grains of water was 72.7 for the Winchester and 72.9 for the Previ. Suffice to say that capacity for the factory case and the fire formed case is, for all intents and purposes, the same.

I followed the same procedure with Lapua brass and came out 76 grs. capacity. That's flush to the brim with water. The fired case with primer in place weighed 194 grs., add water and it's 270 grs.

As an aside, I'm always looking for load suggestions that don't involve Rel-15. I did all my load development with that powder, and I'm now down to my last half-pound. So I either stretch out what I have loaded till the drought's over, or find a replacement. My inclination is to stay away from Aliant powders altogether. I'm planning on trying Varget if I can find any. So far tried IMR 4064 & BLC-2 with lacklustre results.

Ted i really like your flip flop idea. did you ever try a double one?

Several times. The ugly 9.3 had a double flip-flop before it was shortened.

Rick's 338 Ruger has one as well.

He says it feels like his 270 now. Don't think they are quite that good, but they really do soak up recoil.

Ted. A while back I picked up an 'inexpensive' Zastava, in '.366 Wagner'. Admittedly, it doesn't have the smoothness and finishing touches of many products on the market today. It seems to be decent 'bang for the buck' and I was WELL pleased with the initial accuracy results. So much so, I also recently acquired a close relative, but the second is in 7x57.

An issue I did have with them is the length of pull which Norm recently shortened. I very shortly have a cataract issue to be delt with. Then I'll get them out to the range for a workout.

250 Barnes TSXFB data

Just out at the range couldn't find much for data for Barnes TSXFB 250 with my favourite IMR-4895 the Barnes data ends with my starting point. I'm over book data by 4 grains and still no obvious signs of pressure best accuracy was at 62.5 printing an impressive cloverleaf :dancingbanana: if anybody could run these numbers through quick load I would appreciate knowing the pressure.

57gr of Varget is giving me 2500fps +/- with the 285gr PRVI out of a 26" Shaw barrel. Not a tooth rattling load but you feel it.

Varget is a great choice, but I find that Re17 is just right for that bullet - a full case gives max MV at max (sane) pressure. The 4350's come next but are a bit slower. H414 is a close third.

Just got 8lbs of 414 so I'll be giving it a go!
