concentricity gauge

I value that insight GGG and it's good to know. I'm likely barking up the wrong tree but I'll find out. ;)

Rodger that!

I wonder if the added cost of lapua brass over hornady, etc, is balanced by the PITA of all the prep needed to make them work??

As you already know GGG there's lots of printed stuff on the net suggesting why some brass is preferred over others. From my own limited reloading experience (the OCD on brass occurs regardless of colour) the Federal brass has more variability...and not just in the neck. Hardness, web thickness and the list goes on and on. Can't speak to Hornady, Nosler, or "Remchester" as Big Ed termed them I believe.

Don't know if you'll believe me but there are more markings I've noticed with the naked eye on the case body after sizing operations and near the base...with no rhyme or reason which gives me the jeebee's about what's going on that I can't see with Federal cases. After having neck failures I've got cold feet and watching for evidence to suggest that other brands have the same problems and I haven't found that yet.

Boiling it all down I'm just following Jerry's advice with PRVI (and Lapua to keep rifle head stamps separate for other rifles.)

What really gets me pi$$ed is after all the PITA OCD work as you have mentioned is that there better be cases that have some life. Our time is more valuable GGG...that's how I see it.

If the "better" brass can increase the probability of concentric ammo then I'm in. (returning to topic somewhat )

I agree 100%. There are a million variables, so an extra 30$ per 100 pieces of brass to limit as many of those variables as possible is worth it to me.

My only worry is losing them hunting, but sobeit.

lol...you only need one shot anyways GGG

My son was a little careless in his used cartridge management while hunting...so now he's been "voluntold" with the OCD process so that he gets an appreciation.

Happy New Year to those following this thread.
