Glock 17 or Sig P226?

Still Alive called it!

... Get a PPQ!! :)

No seriously now, I've never owned a Sig so can't really chime in with authority here. But if you are leaning towards Glock, which this thread is for sure, get a G34 or G17L. WAY more fun! That I can say with confidence... they are also better looking than the regular 17 IMHO.

Good luck getting the right Gun for you.

There should be a dedicated sticky for all the pros and cons of Glocks, SIGs, HKs, Walthers, S&Ws and Berettas.
OP,
There is no one answer to your question.
They are both very good and respected guns that will do what you want of them, in whatever style of shooting you choose.
It'll be almost 50/50 between Glock and SIG.
Some will say " Get both!" Others will say handle them before you buy. Some will argue metal vs. polymer frame. Some will talk about the high bore axis of the SIG. Others will complain about the Glock trigger pull and the bad plastic sights. And others will suggest something completely different like a 1911 or a PPQ or a revolver.
In the end, the call is yours and what your wallet can fork out.

this ^^^^^ that's why i call him "YODA"

A "kaboom" is never really a failure point of the firearm, but the ammunition used. I've seen recent photos of a nighthawk 1911 that split the barrel and slide like a banana.

I realize this. The handful of people who constantly bring it up don't seem to, have a strong bias against plastic, or they believe a majority of shooters use reloads so it's a very legitimate concern. I asked for stats because I believe it's grossly over blown.

There are (or there used to be) issues with the 40sw frames cracking. I bought a Glock 23 police trade in and the frame cracked the first 50 rounds I put through it. However, Glock replaced it with a brand new frame including shipping both ways which kind of made me a Glock fan boy for life. Amazing customer service.

Does Glock have a lifetime warranty for any owner?

How to spot a sig fanboy, the glocks and the sigs are both equally well made firearms.

I never said otherwise. I do love Sig though but for more political reasons. Their war with the BATF has been great.

1 year for the original owner but in practice they will always make it right. I bought a 12 year old LE trade in and they did all the work for free and included shipping. That might be because the cracking frames is a known issue in the older Gen 3 Glock 23/22s though.

I have owned many of both including the MK25 and a 229 and even a Norinco clone. All the Sigs were excellent right out of the box. The grip was a bit wide for my liking, but the E2 grip solves that very nicely.

I have owned several Glock 17s and even the Glock 22. Similar to the Sigs, the grips are a bit wide for me, but the Gen4 fixed that.

What I liked about the Sigs:
Reliable
Nice fit (with the E2)
Accurate
Excellent single stage trigger

What I disliked about the Sigs:
2nd stage trigger
More muzzle flip (high bore height)
Higher price
Heavier (not all will agree. Some like the heft of metal)

What I liked about the Glock:
Reliable
Light weight
Accurate
Nice fit (gen4)
Very little muzzle flip (low bore height)
Price

What I disliked about the Glock 17:
Trigger (mushy garbage)

Don't have any Sigs left. They are excellent guns, but for what they are designed for, they lag behind the Glock. During slow bullseye shooting, the Sig is slightly more effective using only the single action trigger. But let's be honest, neither of these guns are bullseye guns. These are combat guns where you need combat accuracy, quickly. And this is where Glock understands. It's low bore height and uniform trigger action let you shoot faster.

While I understand that training can negate the deficiencies in each of these guns, Glock just makes it easier. The long, heavy, dumb arsed double action trigger was obviously designed by lawyers on the Sigs is obsolete. Glock's lawyers simply make a better trigger.

I've owned more Sig 22x pistols than Glocks. I currently have two G17s and no Sigs.

I'm not a Glock fanboy at all. I've owned a SIG and have seen many more and they are all lacking or simply ticking time bombs of part failure.

As a Factory qualified SIG armourer with over 10yrs of experience working on SIGs, I call complete BS.
