Can you buy decent clay scores?

Some here know the price of everything and the value of nothing as another guy likes to say.

You would be well served starting at the start with what you would likely end up with anyway.

We aren’t doing back flips on motor cross bikes and with the average shooters looking like one of the grumpy guys from the Muppets with practice most anyone can shoot fairly well.

Wouldn’t the best trigger attached to the best action with the best barrels and the best sight picture with the best fit help you succeed?

Shoot poor scores no one cares shoot really good scores they care even less…

You think not? Apparently you've never walked into a club house at the conclusion of a shoot to see shoot management fielding complaints and reviewing your known ability and seeing if you met target requirements for classification prior to being awarded for your wins because some prima donnas had their noses out of joint because they were bested by an "unkown" to them and on their own turf!
Or attended a non registered event at another club and watched as the host club good old boys changed rules and prize dustribution because a group of out of towners shot the top 10 scores and they could not fathom that none of the home team posted a score that could collect a prize?!
I could relate more than a few instances. Trust me their are always more than a few who care about scores, especially high scores!!

I have not competed in many years, and the group that I shoot with every week don't get too concerned with scores. As for myself, if I cared about scores, I wouldn't be shooting doubles skeet with a 28 gauge the majority of the time. As to the nonsense you speak about, it's one reason that I really can't be bothered to compete anymore, although we never seemed to have much of that nonsense shooting skeet in the 90s.

Apparently?

Only seen the known ability rule used once it was done to an Olympic trench shooter and he deserved every yard he got! Most people simply don’t care about penalty’s.

Target requirements no I do not think you should be the captain of the sask team with 200 singles 100 handicap and 100 doubles.

Why would taking a penalty be a shock anyways the shoot programs will tell you when they take affect and I agree with them.
There is enough trophies at a trap shoot these days that it’s like a skeet shoot or sporting clay shoot everyone is a winner! AAA,AA,A,B,C,D CH1,CH2,CH3, Chair shooters, jr shooter, sub jr, jr gold, sub vet, vet, laydie,s state out of state all American points purse pots 50/50 Calcutta’s.

You are only as good as who shows up sorry you met the Muppets. Shoot a good score and from me its way to go nice shooting, shoot a bad score I will stand there and you can tell me your tale of why.

I never said I didn't agree with the rules? I stated that it's a joke the number of prima donnas who get their noses out of joint when someone who is not part of their "clique" wins.
In '87 I attended the Grand for the first time. I was 300 targets short for handicap classification and instead of shooting 3 other events that week prior to the Preliminary Handicap to get those targets I just took and shot with a 5 yard penalty much to the horror of my buddies I was at the shoot with. I posted a 95 from 25 yards, high gun was a lone 98, earning me another 1/2 yard placing me at a permanent 25 1/2 at that point under the earned yardage rules. Twelve years later still at the 25.5 I posted a 96 in the Preliminary Handicap at the 100th Grand(my second attendance and again high gun was a lone 98) earning me 2.5 yards. Well since there isn't a 28 yd line the 27 was my new home in handicap. I am currently on the 25 again....no complaints from me. I like being a back fencer, it's closer to the beer tent at shoot conclusion!! ;)

I normally try to stay in the present and not let the once upon a time run me.
Things are pretty good these days I hope you enjoy when you get going again.

I am thinking that you have never competed at trap or skeet, and you likely don't shoot either on a regular basis.

You haven't either, in what, the last 30 years?
What does this have to do with his analogies, which for the most part seem to pretty much on the up and up. Then, of course, my nose isn't so out of joint that I can see clearly.

Seeing as how you avoided responding, I have to assume that my assumption was correct.

I know my assumption is correct, and see also that you have avoided responding. Now what?
Why single this fellow out to feed your inferiority complex?
Anyone with half a brain could see what he was getting at.

Exactly, once you are into the Citori level of shotgun, you have a gun that will last for hundreds f thousands of rounds, which is several years for a high volume shooter, and a lifetime for most shooters.

If someone was buying my shotguns, I would be shooting a Krieghoff myself, not because I would shoot it any better, but why not shoot a top end gun if someone else is paying for it?

I own Krieghoffs. I even paid for them myself. Does that mean I'm better than you?

I must apologise for my rant to the other fellows that have participated and contributed to this thread, but this kind of behaviour is exactly what is wrong with shooting sports TODAY, not 20 or 30 years ago.

I don't feel the need to brag about what equipment I own, or put a fellow down because I don't like his analogies. Why do you?
The fellow told you he respectfully disagreed, and wasted enough of his time, and yet you continue to call him out?

Stay classy, Stubbs.

I shoot skeet, trap, or sporting clays three or more times per week all spring and summer, and usually once per week all fall and winter, so I shoot clays year round.

So you have a clear view of the inside of your large intestine?

Owning a Krieghoff doesn't make you better than anyone. How you shoot them dictates how good you are.

Registered Targets??? Of course not!!!
Hand thrower in the back yard? Of course!!!
Not even close. At least I don't have to remove someone's object from my mouth before I speak.
Then why the constant mentioning of damn near every POS you own?
Nothing but a never has done.
Now, take it to PM, not that you will, before this thread gets locked as well.

When I look back to when I began shooting clay targets there are two mistakes I made.

The first was not getting proper instruction sooner. The second was not buying the very best target gun available and getting it properly fitted even if it meant taking a loan to pay for it.

My scores would have been better if I'd had the fundamentals taught to me instead of doing it myself by trial and error and not switched guns as much.

However, the first mistake was much more serious than the second. The consolation prize is that I've owned and shot most of the available competition guns and have a clear idea of what I like in a gun and why.

Best advice. Get a properly fitted gun. 2nd get coaching even from club members.

I shoot at Camrose trap/skeet, Beaverhill Sporting clays and at SPFGA , so all of my shooting is on actual fields using real target throwers. As for registered targets, are the targets not the same? are the fields any different? No , the only difference is that I can't be bothered to travel around and try to impress anyone by showing them that I own Krieghoffs. and by trying to get my name on more trophies. As to taking it to PM, I have no desire to waste my time exchanging PMs with the likes of you.

And yet you can be bothered to show up here, day in and day out to try and impress everyone with Spanish junk and a second hand Citori, and giving advice like you're some belt buckle winning shooter?

Well done?

Speaking of wastes of time...

Yet when I post, you always come running to make accusations and personal attacks, talk about a waste of time.

And what, exactly, were you doing earlier on this same thread? Accusations and personal attacks.
Funny how that works, when it's you on the other side?
Can dish it out just fine, just can't take it?
Maybe limit your so called "advice" to "recreational" shooting, and leave the guys that shoot for real, to give real shooting advice?
What a joke.

Congratulations?

Yea lets forget the egos and continue so this doesn't get locked.

I may do a trip to the states for a fitting and trygun shoot, appreciated the referral for the fellow in Quebec, out to do a full trygun session and get stock specs for me. Not cheap but will be fun and worth it. Almost considering trying to build a trygun stock as a winter project.

Ardent, do a web search for nickmakinson.com. He has an Aya try gun for sale with photos on his site that may give you ideas for construction or he might otherwise be able to help you with a fitting. Regardless, let us know how the process of custom stock works out for you.
