A month ago I bought a used HandiRifle with less than 100 rounds through it. The stock (synthetic) had been painted Krylon white for winter varmint hunting. It came with a rail, hammer extension, brass, factory ammo, and a set of RCBS dies...$350. I thought that for the price it might be worth it to see how it does?

I tested Circa 1850 paint stripper...didn't hurt the H&R stock at all and the Krylon peeled right off. The gun is like new! I added a Leupold 4x I had sitting around.

The previous owner used N110 with a 50 grain Berger bullet to get 2570 fps. 1.5" @ 50 yards. Today I started with H4227 and 50 grain Speer TNT HP's. The most accurate group was 3/8" @ 50 yards w 2700 fps+. I thought I was doing well. But I bought a pound H Lil' Gun on a recent trip to the city. I was in for a shock! Starting at 12 grains good groups just kept getting better until at 12.8 I hit gold...1/4" at 50 yards. :dancingbanana: i proved the load. Then I chronyed it...2,948 fps average!!! The case was so full it was almost like scooping, levelling, and shoving in a bullet. (No, didn't do that exactly, but close.) The powder packed well through a drop tube. And no pressure signs. Ballistics program says that zeroed at 150 yards, no more than a .5" rise between muzzle and target and 2" low at 200. I'll tell ya, it ain't my granddad's Hornet, that's for sure. I have a collet die coming...that's the next step. Just wanted to say what a great powder. R-P cases, Fed SR primers. Can't wait to slip a slightly harder Sierra 50 grain SP under the brain pan of something. Why have one of these? Reloadable. You can choose your bullet. And. Quiet. Just plain quiet. Fills the final hole in my range of calibres.

...nice:)

My Anschutz 1730 in 22 hornet grouped sub 1/2 moa for five shots at 100 yards with the 40gr v-max in front of 12.5gr of LilGun. Velocity was just over 2900fps.

Excellent results with L'il Gun in my 22 Hornet Savage Model 25. I load Hornady 50gr SP bullets using 9 grains and get sub MOA accuracy. I found that cases don't last very long with maximum loads. With this mild load cases last much longer.

I recall standing in a groundhog field with a Hornet and a box of 50 rounds. As I fired, other hogs would stick their head up to see what the noise (not very loud) was about. I shot all 50 rounds.

Can't do that with a 243.

...exactly...where has this been my whole life?

...and i will mind the pressure...

'cool little round' says it all

Sounds like a keeper. I have the little brother a 17 hornet that I will start reloading for in the spring, got a great deal on a case of factory ammo so I'm working on those to build my supply of cases. I've been watching for a 22 hornet to compliment the 17.

I have also used Lil'Gun in a K-Hornet. Best powder I ever tried for the Hornet and K-Hornet, without a doubt.
Great velocities and very accurate. My K was in a BRNO ZKW465. Dave.

Someone was selling a NEF .22Hornet here and said they had a 1-7 or 1-9 twist ? I thought that can't be right ........it should be 1-16 ...........anyone confirm this? Harold

yeah, mine is a newer NEF and it has a 1:9 twist, which they went to to supposedly stabilize heavier bullets

I think some of the bolt actions Ruger , Savage and Browning went with a 1-14 for the 50gr pill....heck if yours is shooting like that I wouldn't ask any questions either .....Harold

My Hornet was a Brno. I tried every trick in the book to make it shoot. Best I could get was about 4" at 100.

I even tried gluing the barrel and floating the action.

One day I tested ammo and it shot around an inch. Loaded sounded a bit mild, so when I got home I pulled some bullets and weighed the powder charges. They were 5 gr light! I had mis-read the beam scale.

It was a pleasure to shoot offhand.

I had a Sako 72 or 74 can't remember that was bedded that would shoot 1/2" one day and spray the paper the next.It had the old tight .223 bore and it shot those best. It's long gone as it was possessed IMO...spent a lot of money trying to figure that one out.......Harold

Lil' gun you say.... I was looking at 4227 with 40grn bullets.

Have an oddball, 1896 MLM (long lee) converted to rifle 22 MkII, converted to a 22Hornet sporter. Bore is still the 22RF so its going to be tight.
