A month ago I bought a used HandiRifle with less than 100 rounds through it. The stock (synthetic) had been painted Krylon white for winter varmint hunting. It came with a rail, hammer extension, brass, factory ammo, and a set of RCBS dies...$350. I thought that for the price it might be worth it to see how it does?
I tested Circa 1850 paint stripper...didn't hurt the H&R stock at all and the Krylon peeled right off. The gun is like new! I added a Leupold 4x I had sitting around.
The previous owner used N110 with a 50 grain Berger bullet to get 2570 fps. 1.5" @ 50 yards. Today I started with H4227 and 50 grain Speer TNT HP's. The most accurate group was 3/8" @ 50 yards w 2700 fps+. I thought I was doing well. But I bought a pound H Lil' Gun on a recent trip to the city. I was in for a shock! Starting at 12 grains good groups just kept getting better until at 12.8 I hit gold...1/4" at 50 yards.
i proved the load. Then I chronyed it...2,948 fps average!!! The case was so full it was almost like scooping, levelling, and shoving in a bullet. (No, didn't do that exactly, but close.) The powder packed well through a drop tube. And no pressure signs. Ballistics program says that zeroed at 150 yards, no more than a .5" rise between muzzle and target and 2" low at 200. I'll tell ya, it ain't my granddad's Hornet, that's for sure. I have a collet die coming...that's the next step. Just wanted to say what a great powder. R-P cases, Fed SR primers. Can't wait to slip a slightly harder Sierra 50 grain SP under the brain pan of something. Why have one of these? Reloadable. You can choose your bullet. And. Quiet. Just plain quiet. Fills the final hole in my range of calibres.
...nice
