Good to see Colt trying to turn itself around by looking towards the future.
The question is why wouldn't Colt dust off those tools and re-manufacture some of these iconic designs?
whats all the hype ? If you want a " M16 A-1 clone" just go to Canada ammo and get their clone, D.A 556 A-1 for $600 bucks. I picked one up and am very happy with it.

To the true collector that's like saying go buy a Fiero and tell everyone it's a Ferrari.
A true "collector " wouldn't buy a Clone. Would you buy a copy of the Mona Lisa ? or top dollar for a cloned 1967 corvette sting ray? Only the "original" has value ,..all the rest is a copy or a fake. Cloned money is worthless, & a cloned S&W 686 is too.
If colt is making it... is it a clone?
If Chevy spooled up and built a 67 camaro in 2017, is it a clone or is it a 2017 build of a legit 1967 style camaro?
The M16, XM16E1 yes, the M16A1 no. GM and H&R never made a single M16A1, their contracts were up prior to the M16A1 being adopted 28 Feb 67. Not a single three prong was supplied to the US Army past Sep '66. Why do you think they were on SP1s for so long? Colt had no other way to get rid of them. Do mix masters exist? Yes of course. But not a single M16A1 left the Colt factory with a three prong, not for the US Army anyway.
If one was to have a set of M-16/SP-1 triangular handguards and if one was to decide to part with them, what would one price them at? US websites are all over the place.
I sold a set over a year ago for 125 and it went immediately. They were used but undamaged
What about new ones? I have 2 sets still in the wrapper.

I will correct his manufacturing history. Every rifle made by H&R and Hydramatic was an M16A1, as the US government didn't even negotiate a manufacturing license from Colts until after the M16A1 was type classified. First non-Colt rifles were delivered in late 1968.
