Colt Classic M16A1 Clone

I dunno. Some of the best guns in the world are in the past.
Guys are willing to shell out $3-6k or more for replica rebuilds of iconic designs (FG-42, STG-44, M-14 etc.) no longer in production by companies that have no connection with the original manufacturer.
The question is why wouldn't Colt dust off those tools and re-manufacture some of these iconic designs?
They did it recently with the commemorative 1911 that was well received; it stands to reason this will too.

Keeping production limited to 1500 rifles and charging $2500 US isn't going to help their bottom line.

Colt has been remanufacturing its iconic designs for decades, that's why its now owned by hedge fund managers raping it for every last dollar before its dumped like a ### crime victim on the side of the road.

When your last iconic designs are the snake guns that Colt doesn't even have the ability to produce any more, you are simply a company cannibalizing yourself. The end might be delayed by a charity f##k .mil contract, but its coming. Good riddance.

whats all the hype ? If you want a " M16 A-1 clone" just go to Canada ammo and get their clone, D.A 556 A-1 for $600 bucks. I picked one up and am very happy with it.

Yeah.
Or just build one.
There's at least 2 20" pencil barrel off SP1's on the EE right now.
There's a couple A1 style uppers.
Even a whack of retro A1 furniture. YOu could even use a colt lower and LPK and BCG and still be way way under whatever retarded price tag this thing is going to surely have on it lol
That's what I did. I can print 10 round groups of 55gr FMJ into a tea cup with mine at 100 meters with irons! For a total build cost of about $1K

To the true collector that's like saying go buy a Fiero and tell everyone it's a Ferrari.

A true "collector " wouldn't buy a Clone. Would you buy a copy of the Mona Lisa ? or top dollar for a cloned 1967 corvette sting ray? Only the "original" has value ,..all the rest is a copy or a fake. Cloned money is worthless, & a cloned S&W 686 is too.

If colt is making it... is it a clone?

If Chevy spooled up and built a 67 camaro in 2017, is it a clone or is it a 2017 build of a legit 1967 style camaro?

They have already tried that with the Mustang, Cuda & the Camaro ect , how well is that working, LOL The BIG money is on the Calander cars,..the True Muscle car era.
History & providence is what makes a Real collectors piece. The new colt nor the new cars have it.
This is nothing more than a "marketing" gimmick" like so many other gun manufactures are promoting ard doing these days.

The M16, XM16E1 yes, the M16A1 no. GM and H&R never made a single M16A1, their contracts were up prior to the M16A1 being adopted 28 Feb 67. Not a single three prong was supplied to the US Army past Sep '66. Why do you think they were on SP1s for so long? Colt had no other way to get rid of them. Do mix masters exist? Yes of course. But not a single M16A1 left the Colt factory with a three prong, not for the US Army anyway.

Leg is correct about the 3-prong flash hiders being phased out months before the M16A1 was type classified. They didn't actually didn't last much longer on the SP1, either, and I don't think 3-prongs were found on any rifle leaving Colts after 1968. And it was uncommon for 3-prongs to be used as spares on later rifles, a bird cage flash hider is not exactly a fragile part. I agree it was an odd choice for this reissue.

I will correct his manufacturing history. Every rifle made by H&R and Hydramatic was an M16A1, as the US government didn't even negotiate a manufacturing license from Colts until after the M16A1 was type classified. First non-Colt rifles were delivered in late 1968.

If one was to have a set of M-16/SP-1 triangular handguards and if one was to decide to part with them, what would one price them at? US websites are all over the place.

I sold a set over a year ago for 125 and it went immediately. They were used but undamaged

D'oh! Weak Google fu on my part. Thanks for the clarification.

ETA: went back and checked my source and I had it backwards. GM and H&R only produced M16A1 and had nothing to do with XM16E1s.

I think when they originally came out with the idea for these reissues that the first ones were actually marked XM16E1 which would explain the three prong. They probably switched to the M16A1 as that term is common knowledge to those not familiar with the development of the platform. For something claiming to be an exact clone at $2500US I'd be pretty damn pissed if I found out it had the wrong flash hider. You can build a more accurate clone (minus the rollmark) for substantially less.

Does anyone know what colour the anodizing is? Is it a true Colt gray?

I should haul out my PWA clone and sell it for $3000. Afterall it's all USGI parts minus the lower.
