Canadian Tire SKS

You pull the trigger, they go bang. The ones I've seen aren't anything special, usually Russian heavy refurbs with mismatched numbers. I've seen both laminate and hardwood stocks. You may be better off picking one up off the EE, but YMMV.

Cheers,

The SKS at Canadian Tire are dealer specific orders so if they are carried or not depends entirely on how gun friendly the dealer is and the market for them. The store I used to work at carried a few of them when the previous dealer ran the store, but the new dealer is a much more outdoor activities oriented person so the store got in 30 of them within a few weeks of the new guy taking over as he recognized the market for them and was willing to get more of them.

You can generally get any long gun you want from Canadian Tire Stores provided the dealer and sports/outdoor manager is mildly pro-firearms as long as you have a good rapport with them as Canadian Tire Corp doesn't actually handle firearms. This of course depends on who the dealer is purchasing from for their stock, the Montrose Rd store in Niagara Falls will order you pretty much anything from the manufacturer's catalog if they can find it, you just might not like the price.

Just bought one from CT in Brandon yesterday - $229 for a generic refurb, chinese plastic oil bottle, new cleaning kit, and 3 stripper clips (no sling). 1951 Tula, all numbers matching except for the mag, stock is not forced match. Barrel and rifling look very good, receiver may have been slightly used, but still fine. Stock a little rough in spots.
Shooter-grade for sure, but just fine for the price. Only thing of note was the trig group - friction safety and no rebound (secondary) disconnector. Is this an early model trigger group, or one the Russians experimented with at one time? It is the second trig group I have seen like this in just under a year.
Function check after de-cosmo & re-assembley proves correct result, ie: semi only. Won't get out to fire it for a while - hate the cold...
No regrets on purchase.

I live in the greater toronto area. Unless you go hunting or ask you'd think they didn't sell firearms or ammunition at all. I have honestly never seen a firearm in 9ne of their stores except compressed air or paintball/airsoft. Also 8f they do have ammo their selection is pricey and limited at best. If you have a firearms friendly Canadian tire you are lucky.

That is the early tripper group. Up to 1952? You can identify it in the gun by the absence of the "step" in the frame behind the mag release. I've seen this trigger in refurbs of all years, not just the early guns.

Canadian Tire in Georgetown has lots of rifles and shotguns. Not sure if they have any SKSes right now.
I picked up a Chinese M14S shorty clone from them. They only carry non-restricted guns.

I have bought # SKS from CTC, same as anywhere else, different stores have different quality etc. I bought 5 from the Bedford commons store who was getting out of SKS last year $150 each,, should have bought 10!! Out of them 4 were 53,54 izzys, and all had birch stocks and parked finish! Another spot got in 130 Russian SKS and I got to pick through them where I got a few non refurb birch stock including 1 53 izzy. The same place is now bringing in a few Chinese nonrefurb unissued!

I bought two from CT Kenaston in Winnipeg when they were 199.00 in 2015 but they had a promo of spend 200.00 get a 50 dollar gift card. Bought one in the morning and one in the afternoon went back the next day and bought a case of ammo for 100.00 off. good times....

Not matching but they go bang like an SKS will do all day long

I highly recommend the McPhillips store in Wpg. The guy in receiving also orders the firearms. He is a firearm enthusiast (gun nut) like myself. He sold me a fine 53 Tula with no refub mark and all matching #'s that he said came from the Ukraine. This was a few years ago and retailers are at the mercy of what the distributor has available at any given time.

yes I have the milsurp essentials. 4SKS,4SVT,4Mosin with one scoped rifle of each and a couple of k98's. Just commenting how Vanilla the stores are around me. I would have liked to be able to go to Canadian tire which is 5 mins down the road to look at stuff rather than have to drive to various stores farther away and shop online all the time. I love my milsurps and only have .22lr's that were made more recently. I have looked but new guns just feel flimsy to me unless I spend big $ on them.

It's strange I wonder why Canadian tire does not push its hunting a sporting division in what is really one of the largest markets in Canada?

You live in Toronto the biggest fear mongering city in Canada, next to the entire province of Québec when it comes to firearms.

I've seen them in a nearby CT, but have never bought one. A while back I was at that CT and I asked if I could examine them and everyone of them, and there were at least half a dozen, were rusted and pitted looking.

niagara, burlington, georgetown all have sks' in the gta from my travels. If you look up what stores have "outdoors centres" or whatever they brand it as - they are more likely to carry them. Barrie and further north I imagine would be similar

St. Catharines Canadian Tire ( Fourth Ave) has SKS's in stock with wood or laminate stocks. They have Russian and Chinese in stock both same price..they are working in getting in non- issued Chinese as well...they are on back order last I checked.

They brand it as proshop. St. Catharines on Louth Street ( St. Catharines) has 120 on display and around 40 or so on clearance.
