so. I wanted a light coyote rifle and I traded with a buddy of mine and got a t3 compact in 204 ruger, very light, weights about 6.5 lbs with a refiled 3-9x50 scope and all I can say it's the most accurate I have ever owned. 4 shot in a 3/8 hole at 100yds with factory ammo in a stock rifle, I think I am going to get another in 308 and 338 win mag, just saying

Come now, they are far more hit than miss. My 4 are spectacular.
5 three shot groups .5-.75 MOA (hunting and sporting )or the 300 yd 10 shot one MOA (target and precision )like so (this was the 300yd 10 shot one )

I used to say I'd never met a Tikka that wouldn't shoot....until a buddy gave me his 7mag varmint. I bedded it into his GRS stock for him & still won't shoot. Good enough for hunting bigger critters but not good enough for minute of coyote at 500 & out. Pretty disappointing. He's considering sending it to Steve at EM Precision to true & shorten the throat. Gotta say, I'm a bit baffled. Steve'll fix 'er up, I'm sure (not the first time he's made a silk purse for me

6.5x55swm i'm glad to see your happy with your T3. I have a pair of T3's and am very happy with the accuracy. The 204 is very accurate and preliminary results with the 6.5x55 are very good. I do agree the stock is just adequate but i'm not a big fan of any synthetic stock.

Out of the box they're meant for hunters shooting from 0-250 yards just like most production hunting rifles. Im not saying they can't go out farther but they're usually equipped with light plastic stocks to keep the weight and price down. They're meant to be dragged all over hell and creation and make the shot not to shoot the wings off a fly at 1000 yards. You'll be hard pressed to find a modern production rifle that will deliver that kind of performance without modifications. Let's be honest most hunters aren't good enough shots off the bench to even come close to what the gun can do. Most only take their rifle out for a pre hunt check at the range firing maybe 6-8 rounds before going hunting.

I'd going 8 twist 22-250 on what was a .243. Lots of room in the mag for long bullets. And I'm having it turned to factory sporter contour. Should make a nice walking varminter.

I agree with your assessment of the rifle. But everyone on the internet claims they are 1/2 moa rifles out the box. So yeah, when you hear enough people going on and on about how great their barrels are you start to believe it and pretty soon you own one. My experience has been that many other manufactures are making rifles as or more accurate. But like I said at the beginning...factory rifles are a gamble some shoot some don't.
I have T3 lite in .223 I use for coyote control around the farm. Get 5 MOA with 55gn fmj federal, and 1.5MOA with my handloads. Not the MOA they claim, but I think it's just me shooting in realistic conditions. Good rifle for the job though.
I listened to all the hype and my buddy who has a T3 in .223, so went out and picked one up. 4 MOA with factory ammo and 2 MOA with hand loads on 5 shot groups. So roughly what you'd expect from a cheap factory rifle. When I asked two friends that have them and swear they are tack drivers to come out and shoot mine to see if they could do better with mine, they got the same result. So then I asked to see how theirs grouped. Same or worse than mine. Not to suggest they are full of it but I think theres a lot of wish full thinking out there. Its not that I don't believe that Tikka can make a good rifle, just that the hype, is just that.

If $800-1000 is the new low budget all I have to say is wow. I bought a new m70 supergrade in 7mm-08 for $1200. What is a t3x selling for $1000? Even a brand new m70 fwt is only $1000.
My m70 is also a light barrel and will group em all tight every time all the time not just once and a while if it you do a 2 step, crack your knuckles, blink 4 times with right eye and 18 with left eye, tap your head 4 times and say the lords prayer while doing jumping jacks in the back of a orange chevy 3500 driving down the highway at 63.6 mph with the wind blowing 13.2km/h from the left.
