Hi guys,

what's your thoughts/experiences on using one-piece AR style QD mount on a bolt action? I just got into bolt action and got a ruger american predator in .308 WIN with 1:10 twist, heavy than regular barrel(not heavy barrel though). So, technically with the proper optics, matching handload and enough practice, it should reach beyond 600 yards with great accuracy. So, my thoughts right now is to use those one-piece QD mount with 2 scopes on this rifle, one low power(2-10x) for hunting/short range, one high power(6-24x) for getting a taste on longer range precision shooting before I commit to it.

ADM not only makes the ones for AR flat top, they also have one specifically for bolt action. So, I am wondering anyone has any experience using this type of the mounts on your bolt action. Other than the benefits I already know and why I am looking at it, what might be the cons that I missed due to lack of field experience.

Any thoughts would appreciated! Thanks!

I have an American Defense low 1-piece QR mount on my Tikka T3 Tactical, and have shot 12" steel plates at 600 yards without noticable POI shift taking it off), so the mount is definitely capable or retaining 1/2moa or better accuracy. Truth be told, I'm not good enough a shot to even be within that 1/2moa..... I have irons on the barrel but was originally going to use a Viper PST 1-4 as a brush scope.... It currently has a Viper PST 4-16 with the QR mount.

Gives it a ton of flexibility, so I'd say go for it! Just use a reputable brand for the QR mount.

Thanks. I think you meant to type "600 yards without noticable POI shilft.... :)

So, your model is AD-RECON-SL? I saw it has "standard lever vs tactical lever". what's the difference?
And did you have to lap the rings like the two piece ones?

Just picked up a PST 2.5-10x32 FFP & a PST 6-24x50 FFP. the 1-4x24 was sold out in the store I went to just before I got there due to the promotion(was $600, great price). :(

Yes, to the "Without noticeable shift" was typing on my phone at lunch :p

And also yes to the AD-Recon SL (Super-Low). I definitely didn't Lap the rings, they have a very nice matte finish inside which puts a lot of friction onto the scope itself. I did use a set of alignment bars a friend had to see how well they lined up, and they were pretty much perfect. ADM does make good stuff! The only thing I can say to be careful about is not over-tightening the screws. They thread into Aluminum so if you torque em too much you can strip them out (Hasn't happened to me though)

The "Tactical Lever" is a little extension down on the lever itself to give you more area to pull it out, but I find that the levers sit so close to the rail you can only get your finger tips into it anyways, so IMHO it's pointless. That does depend on the rail mount and how much room you have though!

If you're looking at a Viper PST 1-4, the one I was going to use got put onto my short barreled 10/22 which I never shoot anymore. It IS an MRAD model though (not MOA), FWIW and has the target turrets (and the unused zero-stop kit) as well as flip-up caps. It's been mounted with some super low Warne rings; But i'd be willing to let it go for a good price. I got it long time ago back when they sold for 550-ish!

Thanks again F22_RaptorR! ordered 3 mounts last night. one Recon for 1-4(found it on grouseriver, last MRAD rectical in stock. it does have MOA version as well but I chose Mil for my tactical guns and long range just to match up what military uses. :) ), two Recon SLs for (2.5-10(MOA) and 6-24(MRAD)). all with tactical lever.

for mounting, I do have the wheeler professional mounting kit which has all the tools including the torque wrench which is critical to ensure 100% even and perfect torque on all the screws as you mentioned.
another benefit with the one-piece mount is to eliminate the lapping process given both rings are fixed, of course as long as the manufacturing process is good which is why I picked ADM due to their reputation.

can't wait to get them so that I can go out to shoot my new rifles. :)
