What is it that I'm missing with these? Tradex is selling them for $250 a pop yet they're being listed (and presumably sold) for $300-$400 on the EE. Commercial vs. Military?

The Tradex listing is for one (1) Chinese SKS....don't think there are any more. Tradex usually lists individual rifles as they did with their Yugo 98s.

I just bought one from tradex, it's a factory 26, the wood isn't that great as past Chinese Sks imports.

My tradex Chinese Sks is:
Numbers matching except magazine
The spike bayo tip is slightly bent
The magazine has a rivet visible from the bottom of the mag
Upper wood hand guard is cracked lengthwise
And as I mentioned above already, the wood stock is pretty beat up

Am I complaining? No. For $250 it was worth the purchase I think. However these are $250 because they are worth $250, the ones on the EE are $300-$400 as they are from previous imports and in "as new" condition

Does commercial SKS even exist? All I know, when it comes to SKS it's refurbished or non refurbished, which apparently doesn't apply to Chinese rifles AFAIK. Chinese rifles used to be sold for more than soviet ones because market was dry, look at prices for Yugo SKS, my guess is that some people didn't adjust to the price change after last big shipment arrived.

Listed and sold my commercial '90's vintage in less than 5 hours today. Going to a home that will use it with a good deal on some ammo.

So Chinese do have commercial variant? What's the difference between commercial and military? I honestly have no knowladge when it comes to Chinese SKS, that's why I'm asking.

Odd. Reading their ad I would have expected a much higher quality if a rifle is rated/described as "good-very good".

Yes, Norinco type-56 SKS, SKS-D etc. From what I understand there were also rifles assembled for commercial sale from leftover military parts, which may show up as mismatched rifles. Not 100% sure that's the case though as I've never seen a mismatched Chinese SKS before.

"Commercial" are military guns or parts that have been assembled from military parts or refurbished guns for commercial export and sale.

"Military" are military guns taken directly from surplus stock/stores and then sold commercially.

Some commercial guns are simply scrubbed fully assembled guns that would otherwise have been military.

Import marks do not automatically mean the gun was only commercial grade.

A factory 26? That's pretty cool, well worth what you paid, IMO! Can you tell the production year?

I think there may be more, I bought one from the website earlier this week and it's still listed as in Stock even though the rifle is paid for and shipped

Got one from Trade EX and had to send it back for a exchange....

This is how it came IN the box, dirt and everything. Looks like someone beat the #### out of hit, dropped it on the packing room floor, then dumped it in the box. No damage to the box so it came from the factory like this.

Also what you can't see is the the whole front sight of off by about 20 deg. Bayonet is bent, and it was missing the rear sight and metal buttpad.

They exchanged it no problems, new one gets here on Monday.

Yikes! I hope mine got a once over before they shipped it. I have yet to see it.

If you want more info on the Chinese SKS read the sticky in this forum. I did and it is well worth the read!

Not to hijack this thread but are we going to see more of these Chinese SKS's in Canada? Sounds like Tradex is selling some refurbs, anybody know if there will be very good condition or as new Chinese SKS offerings soon?

The sticky is great but no where near up to date. Sks-files dot com is the current authority. I would suggest their site and associate pages specific to each country.

The Chinese SKS out now are refurb and like the ones at army navy, were fugly and poorly refurbed overall in general, not sure about the mechanics of the refurb,, could be fine, so army navy sol for $300 tradex $250 and someone else $229 ish. The, as new ones haven't made it to retailers yet, my CTC is getting half a dozen or so to start with and says he will be selling those for around $350. I will let you know how they are, but he says they are Military surplus! Probably similar to Marstars offerings of a few years ago, with the stocks having storage/shipping marks but unissued/unfired except proof firing!
As for what people are asking or getting on the EE., sometimes it reflects market prices and sometimes it does not, if someone pays $400 for a Chinese SKS that sold for $150 tops 3 years ago then that is what it is worth to them,, they haven't lost anything unless they try to sell and they may or may not win/lose money! If anyone is trying to make big bucks on any of the surplus gear we see, they better be buying it by the crate/pallet load! A couple hundred bucks one way or the other isn't going to break or make anyone!

While I am on a coffee induced rant, here is a question! What do you all think would happen to the price of an SKS, IF, they were re classified as restricted? It's an honest question as the real possibility is looming in front of us! I can't see it helping the price go up, but what are your thoughts?

What if all semi autos became restricted.

No points worrying about what might happen. Can't do anything about it until the next election anyways.
