Chinese SKS

While I am on a coffee induced rant, here is a question! What do you all think would happen to the price of an SKS, IF, they were re classified as restricted? It's an honest question as the real possibility is looming in front of us! I can't see it helping the price go up, but what are your thoughts?

Pretty sure the bottom would drop right out of that market! These are great, cheap, fun plinking rifles that you can take anywhere and actually use to hunt! If relegated to the range, I'm thinking most of the fun would be gone! The accessory market for them would also dry right up as people wouldn't want to spend all kinds of extra money spiffing them up to look cool etc. if they couldn't use them like they use to be able to.

New ones just wouldn't sell anymore as the used market would be flooded.

I for one wouldn't buy another. I have 5 or 6 from different countries and years. Cool from a collectable standpoint, but if they went restricted, they wouldn't see the light of day very much after that, if at all...

Just my 2 cents, but I have a good feeling that this would happen!

Yes I think probably the price would drop, but I believe people would still buy if they had an rpal and collectors would too but they would be looking for prime examples! Ammo would also probably drop!

What if all semi autos became restricted.

No points worrying about what might happen. Can't do anything about it until the next election anyways.
I see your point but I think we may be able to do something about it if we get together, as for all semis, that would likely take them a bit longer and would get a lot more firearms owners up in arms( so to speak), the SKS being from a military background may be the low hanging fruit they go for first! hopefully the next election will turn the tide our way!

Why would it take them longer. Pass an oic and it's done. That's how the sks would be changed to prohib. Or restricted. The lab can't do it without an oic. If they want to do one semi why not all at once.

If we get all together. Ya. Good luck with that. We could be all together but we would still need a government willing to listen to us and not the lab.

The RCMP are doing what they think they can get away with, restricting hunting rifles and shotguns would likely be pushing it right now whereas the SKS can get lumped in with military type rifles and get less public pushback but I don't rule out them trying to lump them all together, they are that stupid! All we can do is try, we are getting louder politically and publicly! It all helps when pushing back against a negative government bent on taking our civil liberties!

Remember when they moved the Akdal 1919 tactical looking shotgun from "restricted as an AR15 variant" to "not an AR15 variant"... and thus non-restricted.

Lots of tactical looking guns are approved as NR or R. And lots aren't.

As for the SKS, and the worry it might go restricted or prohibited, as a group, there is nothing currently in the law that allows that. They would need an OIC from the government for it to happen.

Yes, let's hope the rumours are false about going after the SKS and if so, then I hope they meet with lots of resistance and run out of time before they complete their agenda!

If you want more info on the Chinese SKS read the sticky in this forum. I did and it is well worth the read!

Not to hijack this thread but are we going to see more of these Chinese SKS's in Canada? Sounds like Tradex is selling some refurbs, anybody know if there will be very good condition or as new Chinese SKS offerings soon?

Thanks, I've read the stickies plenty. I was just curious about the price difference between the ones being sold on the EE vs. what Tradex is selling. Now that some folks have posted pics, its pretty obvious the Tradex rifles were kicked around the bottom of a shipping container for the last 60 years.

x2 on that one. Hard to know exactly what's in store these days!!

I just got mine from tradex, they are definitely true military used guns that were refurbed, stocks sanded, black oxide coating, mine was full of oily mud and grass inside the stock. Some slop in the take down parts etc. Plenty functional but definitely rode hard.

Just got mine in from tradeex as well, dripping in cosmoline.it exceeded my expectations actually.
The stock shows some marks but is in very good shape overall. Mine has a blued finish with no signs of rust or pitting anywhere. The cleaning kit was included in the butt stock and it came with a plastic oil bottle too.
The magazine is pinned tastefully.
Very good first experience with Tradeex
