Simple question and simple answer, Yes, No, or don't type.

The US army used to use 1/2" pine boards as a measure of lethality, they did not take people and stand them up at range and shoot them for testing, they took an analog and shot that analog to determine if it was a kill or not.

This was simply an ask of what people thought, obviously your thoughts are that people should not ask opinions, you are the trolls, I wanted to get opinions and all I got was BS.

I have my PAL, I have my hunting license, I have been hunting for 17 years, I shoot a lot, I shoot a lot of odd stuff, I reload, I shoot shotguns, rifles, bows, traditional bows.

Take your troll comment and shove it.

I've shot watered down loads out of my 50 cal inline ML, which were 45 cal round ball, or 45 cal bullets with 40-60 grains Pyrodex RS. I'll try to find my results, but IIRC AND swag, round ball would make it through 2" of wood, the heavier bullets with same powder would make almost 4". But I'll go look because I'm curious.

From a tree stand I'd probably poke a relaxed deer out to 50 m max.

No luck on the penetration test photos.

Your whole thread is a troll thread......so best not point your finger elsewhere.......

Most of us who have shot before know that different projectiles and cartridges will react differently when hitting different mediums....

You seem that be waiting for the "shocking reveal" moment...... you won't get it here......

I am with looky, "Ollie mollie"

Your second sentence is a decent answer, the caliber is irrelevant here, based on the exit hole of 3/4" you do not believe this will kill at deer at the given range, good enough.

As for everyone up in arms about using wood, sorry, I don't have a spare deer carcass laying around to test on.

I know that many people use 1" pine as a relative example of what is necessary to penetrate into the chest cavity through a rib and kill a deer but I better get out there and find a road kill to shoot.

A .22 lr will penetrate 6 one inch pine boards and stop in the seventh.

.22 lr is not an ethical choice for deer.

A round merely capable of penetrating one 1" pine board is woefully inadequate.

Your "frozen spruce" test has as much usefulness at determining lethality as a comparison based on the noise of the muzzle blast. (None)

For the sake of comparison, my 1200fps air rifle in .177 will shoot through a spruce 2x4. My .308 with soft points will shoot through a 8" maple tree.

And yet you needed confirmation on a shooting forum of a rounds lethality to kill. Somehow your question combined with pictures of the boards you harvested does not equate to your so called 17 years of varied experience?!!

And you wonder why you are being labelled a troll and get quite indignant about being called out on such a trollish thread?
Please?!!

Why do so many think ther is a magical calber there is no such thing
I have shot deer with a 22 LR wen younger did it all the time and it worked out realy good same with 22 hornet
The only real advantage to other bigger faster calber is distance

Shouldn't be too long before there's a reference to the old lady that killed a grizzly with a 22 or Bell and his 7x57 on elephant.

this is a hunting fourm not a knitting club

You get the best penetration with Armor piercing or Full metal jacket's but for hunting it's a no go and means nothing Exept on head shots
A 35 lbs bow will kill just as well as a 60 lbs bow on deer ,just can't shoot as fare same thing with rifle calbers

Are any of these enough?

I won't say from how far I shot, or what I shot it with.

I didn't shoot for accuracy as my eyes were closed the whole time.

How about this one? I won't say what type of bow I used or from how far but would this work for deer?

Nothing penetrated, guess I have to upsize.

Quit looking for a reaction.

As far as I can tell it is a dull 1/4" twist bit going through your frozen kindling.

If you're man enough you can use that wood to kill a deer.

If you're hunting deer like this, I'd say that round is perfect.

FFS guys cut it out ;)
No sooner had my computer been cleaned and sanitized than I snorted all over it again.
Dam head cold coming on and the green stringy things are a pia.
You know looky, the night of the moon was tame compared to the last couple of days here on CGN.
Tight Groups, oh and that goes for you too SI C!! :)

Unfortunately it's not much of a hunting forum any longer. It used to have lots of great hunting stories. Now it's a how did my bullet perform and is my rifle big enough forensics forum! I miss the good old fashioned hunting stories that didn't always end in a forensics investigation.

Evan the guy posting photo of his kids hunting is getting band that was one of my Favorite tipe of hunting story's
My uncle has a saying (if you ant killing sumthing you mite as well wear a dress )
