I bought a Remington 7600 chambered in 30-06 from cabelas back in July, after replacing the stock with an ATI pistol grip and updating the horrible trigger it was a good shooter that treated me well through hunting season.

By nature I can't seem to leave some things well enough alone. I found myself wanting for a 22-250.

I picked up a ruger no1 in 22-250 but it just wasn't my cup of tea

This is where he build starts

I picked up a Remington 700 varmint count our barrel off the EE chambered in 22-250

So after removing the factory 06' barrel it was time to start the machine work

Turning the barrel down to .9375

I don't have any pictures of turning the threads, done with a HSS bit ground to 60 degrees, compound set at 29.5 degrees.
Threads are 15/16"x 20 unef

Turning the inside dimension for the barrel extension

Turning down the shoulder to match the OD of the barrel extension

Homemade barrel vise with brass insert, ready to install the barrel extension

Homemade socket for installing and torquing the barrel extension to the barrel

1" bar with emery cloth wrapped around it chucked up in the lathe for contouring the pump forend to the contour of the new barrel

And how it sits now all assembled

Just waiting for a reamer and headspace gauges now

Makin'er a switch barrel?! Looks damn cool and sounds like there might be a few other CGN'ers (myself included) who'd be interested in some custom chamberings. You just a tinkerer, or an enterprising entrepreneur?

Thanks!

Switch barrel is a possibility, but not at the moment for me due to the price and availability of the barrel extension brackets.

I'm just guy who has access to too many tools of the trade and too much time to dream this stuff up lol.

I could put you in contact with the people that I know will do this work, I was going to outsource the machining and chambering but I felt confident enough to do it my self.

Hypothetically one could rebarrel a 7600 or 760 to any caliber based on the .473 bolt face

Just how big is your head? When I went to boot camp in Cornwallis, N.S. , I had to march around for the first 20 days in my civilian clothes (civvies) because they did not have a hat to fit me. If your uniform is not complete , head to toe, you cannot wear it. So, they had to special order me one from Montreal. They said "You have the biggest head in N.A.T.O. !!!" My hat size is 8 5/8" and even that leaves a red ring around my forehead when I take it off. So there! The gauntlet has been thrown down... LOL My skidoo helmet is 5XL.

Oh snap, "big giant head" just got called out.... :dancingbanana:

Well ive run into some trouble,

I'm having issues with it feeding out of the factory Remington magazines, either 308 or 30-06

I've thought about using one of those plastic eagle mags, I believe they were single stack. Does anyone have one they'd like to part with?

Dude !! 😊👌 ... I was just telling my cousin last night how i was thinking about having a 7mm-08 and a 25-06 made. But you know a cartridge i just saw that make me wonder 6mm-06. You said before you didnt want to tell me your idea cuz id think you were crazy 🙄 Your a genious !!! Haha

About the easiest way to get a barrel extension is to buy a take-off barrel. They do turn up at gunshows.
Are barrel extensions for the pumps and autos the same? I've never compared them. There seem to be more auto barrels at shows; probably because of terminal bolt chatter ruining the receivers.

If you look at the barrel extension offered by Lumley Arms out of Australia, they list the same part for semi and pump action rifles. That'd make sense after hearing a couple of stories about people converting their 740's and 742's to a pump action after the receiver gets chowdered.
