Enough for deer?

I have been experiencing some cabin fever so I went out back with a sacrificial block of wood and did a test.

Looking at these pictures, not knowing the range or the cartridge, do you say that this is enough gun at that range for deer? I did not shoot for accuracy, I just wanted 3 shots on the board to compare.

The board is a 1 3/4" piece of frozen spruce.

What do you think?

Would work fine, but gutting and quartering that deer might require special wood working tools or you could take it to a taxidermist and make it into a picnic table Laugh2

Your cabin fever experiment could have merit, if you shoot through multiple planks, and compare to the penetration of another rifle that you know is adequate for the job.

I did a similar experiment when making my first batch of mouse farts https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1335340-Mouse-fart-recipes?highlight=Mouse+fart

I set up a bunch of boards and took a shot with .22cb (which I've used successfully on grouse and squirrels in the past) then fired my mouse fart at the same target. It went through one more board than the cb, so by my calculation, I'm good to go for equivalent game. But not deer lol.

Why don't you just say what the caliber is and then people will tell you if it has ever had success on deer and to what range you can expect to drop one with a perfect shot!!??

Doesn't seem very powerful at all looking at the exit holes!!!!

Best reply of the bunch! Can't understand the reluctance about not saying what calibre and at what distance the shots were taken at??? If the OP had done this he could have gotten an answer with a couple of replies.

Is this really an arrow penetrating concrete? Could you give a few more details? Didn't think/know this was possible...

Yes it is.

Very possible when you miss your target.

Why Slick Tricks are so popular.

40ish yards , too many shots , getting tired, resultant pulled shot.

Makes one hell of a smack too.

Lightest gun I ever shot a Manitoulin Island deer with was a Rossi 92 carbine 16" bbl in 357 mag.
The range was about 30 yards and the deer (6-point buck) took about 10 steps before it piled up for good.
I shot through the boiler maker.
A 158 grain jacketed flat nose.
I sold the gun the same fall because I needed cash and my old w94 30-30 could do the same job at longer ranges.
Loved that little Rossi.
It weighed less than 5 pounds.
Back to the OPs post. It doesn't take much to kill a deer if the shot placement and range are right.
