How much could value a 1960 M14 Springfield Armory ?

Was a few of these that got miss verified. I was like 17 saved up my money ( army reserves ) and had dad buy me a Springfield M1A for 700$ at a LGS since I did not have my PAL. It was registered as NR. I had fun for it for about a year. Posted pitchers and people started to question it.

I found out later. A person converted the 4 in 14 into a A, just removed the sector switch, it still had the sector tab on it. Basically ended up being a 12-CA, rather getting in trouble. I had it destroyed.

I had a smith remove the action and had it destroyed. Sold what I could and made my money back and more. Which was around 1200$

This would be a neat piece of history, mass production of the M14 really only got any momentum in 1961. I'm thinking a 1960 rifle would probably have at most a 5-digit serial number, could well have only 4.

Yes that is correct. The receiver is the only regulated item. The parts are not controlled.

but wait ..... it's not just the receiver..... once you remove the barrel from a 12.3 M14 rifle's receiver , in the views of the rcmp, the receiver reverts back to it's original status, F/A prohibited and you must immediately have the receivers status updated..... OR.... a smart guy has a shot out m14 barrel or a take off norinco m305 barrel on hand to thread back on.... maintaining the firearms 12.3 status.
this is important info and I'm betting there's a great many here who had no idea that was the case.

That is not the notch for the fun part that is where you remove the charging handle

well..... yes..... but it is also there to control/limit the travel of the connector rod during fullauto fire.
The connector rod has a corresponding detail that fits that notch and travels back and forth inside it's limits

Thanks!

I was not aware of that.... I have a "traveling kit" that I use to make house calls. When I'm done the receiver is usually turned in for destruction, with the welded selector still attached, by the owner.

As I DO NOT have a 12.3 (or a 12.x anything) I am not able to have 12.x firearms in the shop for any reason.

I was not aware of the change of status, from now on a "spare" barrel will accompany me on an "outing"!
