Any experiences with this? http://www.weatherby.com/vanguardr-stainless-synthetic.html Reviews seem positive, http://www.shootinguk.co.uk/reviews/rifle/weatherby-vanguard-series-2-sub-moa-rifle but I would like to read your opinions.

A major local retailer is selling them at the $770.00 dollar range, but I would like to hear CGN advertising dealers chime in with their own pitches. In .30-06 of course. :)

Are they actually stainless, or coated? I have been told by several people they are not actually stainless but rather coated with a silver spray and bake finish like cerakote.

I would love to get the real facts if anyone knows.

I have owned several of these firearms.
From the Series One to the Series Two and no back to the Series One in 270WSM with a lightened trigger .
Shoots great and hasnt rusted on me either..it is the SS version too by the way.
OP, Pick any of the Site Sponsors and buy one from them, shopping for a deal will not come to you.
They have gone up from $450.00 back in the day to the price now they have become popular and they do shoot well.

Down side is they tend to be heavy ..they balance well though and again shoot very good .
I'm not going to post a full range report on amy of them individually , but they shoot as well or better than the target they come with when bought new...
My first .257Wby Mag could shoot three shots touching with 100grn spire points and I was able to replicate not only three touching but covered with a quarter paced ina level gravel pit off a pair of Varmint Al's Bi-furpod.

Others may have different results or opinions than mine, but I like em .

Tight Groups,
Rob

Vanguard II's are consistently called one of the best rifles for the money (in terms of value per dollar spent).

The action, barrels and triggers are made by Howa/Japan.

While the stock is synthetic it at least looks and feels pretty good - and the "grippy" inserts are rather functional.

They are guaranteed to shoot sub-MOA out of the box and regularly do so with Blue Box Federal, some of the cheapest factory rolled ammo on the shelf.

They have great warranty coverage if you ever need it - not common to need it.

You either love or hate the two stage trigger - I love it and it saves you having to "replace the crappy trigger" on a brand new rifle.

The price you note is great for 2017. A quick check of the wholesale price tells me that I would probably put one on the shelf for about 1000 bucks if it was ordered today. A couple years back, especially when the buck was at par, $770 would have been the "going rate" (think I paid about $650 for my synthetic/blued version back in 2015).

Given that I have a couple Axis II XP's on the shelf with price tag's around $700 and 700 Rem SPS Stainless is now a little north of 1K, you could do much worse and pay much more.

But I might be biased. I own four Vanguard II's in different sub-models.

I as well have 2 vanguards . They shoot exceptionally well for the price. The triggers have been lightened on both of them. No complaints here !

I own that exact rifle (30.06) with a Vortex Viper 2,5-10 x 44 bdc on top, and have nothing but great things to say other then a little heavy...

The fit and feel works really well for me, excellent value!

I will LOOK over my SS 257 S2 and see - i know the Blued ones are just a Baked on coating that will strip off easy as i did it my 7mm Mag before removing the barrel to rebarrel it to 416 Taylor - its a #### coating on the S1 ! Maybe the S2 s are different i have 2 ( Blued ?? ) ones of them and i will check it -

Cheers RJ

Just ordered my 5th Howa/Vanguard.... Consignment piece that was too cheap to pass up. Said excellent condition so we'll see when it arrives.

I have a V2 SS in .223. Nice trigger, nice rifle. I have a Vortex Viper HS mounted on it. Seems to like heavier Hornady factory and shoots MOA.

Share with us how it shoots

Got it today, probably won't be out until Family Day which a week from Monday.
I can say fairly confidently this was a deal...$600 for the rifle and Elite 4200 6-24x40a/o mildot. The scope alone was $600 new before they went to the 4500 series. One minor scuff on the a/o and the ocular edge had a small ding which I already tapped out and it's no longer visible.
The rifle is near new, maybe 2 boxes of ammo through it, only wear was some blue off the muzzle which I touched up and no longer visible.
I won't use the scope on this rifle however, it's more suited for rimfire target then a hunting rifle.
As for why the prior owner dumped it so cheap....I really don't know. The scope only has 26moa adjustment, all the ring, base, action screws were loose as hell, maybe he couldn't get it zeroed and gave up?

I've been spending some time researching the VS2 lately in hopes of finding one on here (newbie still waiting on drawnout forum permission process). The information and testimonials ive found have nothing but great things to say about the VS2. Something curious i found on the Weatherby website however is that not all Vangaurds are still certified sub MOA. Only units with a serial number prefix of VB (i believe it was) are, the rest are sub 1.5 MOA. And that they also stopped putting the MoA target proof in the packaging box for the firearm. Lastly, that the VS2 specifically started in production circa 2011 and is now done (not on the Weatherby Website) and what the big retail dealers are still selling off is leftover stock. Anyone able to help confirm or deny any of this info?

They are all S2 now, just a different trigger (2 stage vs single) and safety is 3 position vs 2 position, stock is a bit better then S1 in basic polymer form, wood and B&C options are still the same stocks.
All S2 will be VB serial numbers.
Range certified versions still have the target print outs.
