Explain the H&K G28E to me

Please people......the price simply reflects that it is a one of a kind in Canada collector gun, the real deal with the proper markings. For those who have the cash and collect it is much different than a MR308. Is performance that much better? debatable, not much likely....but it is a real G28 and not a civilian MR308 product. We are talking collectors with cash, not average shooters. That's all,

Rich

I can understand paying a premium for a one of a kind collector's dream. But, for the sake of argument, if said gun was from a production run, how much would something like this normally go for?

The US Military is paying about 12 k each to replace the M110.

So my next question is this: Is that rifle, that is for sale by one of the site sponsors, a one of a kind (or very few) prototype? Or is it just the first of potentially many to have made it to our shores?

If it's the former, I could see the collectability of said rifle and it be worth the 28k. The latter, at over twice what the production models would run for, Leonard Cohen had better descend from on high and softly sing "Hallelujah" into my ear with every pull of the trigger.

Its a leftover from an order production run. Much like LE Only rifles we can get the leftovers.
Like any limited run you take a risk and hopefully they don't make anymore.
What I would want at this price is a serial numbered letter of provenance from HK so that when I decided to sell I can prove its lineage.

Anything made by HK that are not sold through their commercial sales are "weapons of war" by german government definition. The German government will not license these to be sold to civilians. G36, UMP, G28, HK416...are all "weapons of war".

These things are most of the time diverted or sold off from its original destination, be it an LE agency, a movie prop house....or whatever. They are never intended to end up in the hands of civilian when they were exported or sold from HK.

If you ask HK for a "letter" as a civilian, they most likely will tell you to pound sand/ignore your rifle ever exists, because no one wants the German government coming down on its back to ask why German made "weapons of war" end up in the hands of civilian. Then you will start getting into the dirty territory of German Government and the treaty signed through the UN.

Supply and demand = $28k for real G28. If it's about the money.... You can get MR308 with G28 upgrades for about $4500 , with optics etc= approx $8K.... This would be a clone of course....but unless you are a collector of HK....who cares!

Explains why H&K intercepted the sale of those MP7s...

is the E model really worth the price now? as shown with all the optics, rails, bipod ETC, 10500EURO. base is only 5K.

Worth it is a relative thing. As a rifle to shoot I could assemble something that can outshoot me for a fraction of the base price, so we're back to adding to the collection. As greentips put it, "If you ask HK for a "letter" as a civilian, they most likely will tell you to pound sand/ignore your rifle ever exists, because no one wants the German government coming down on its back to ask why German made "weapons of war" end up in the hands of civilian. " So it looks like extreme rarity is assured...if you have 28k to spend on a rifle that's probably all that counts.

Same reason why someone would pay 28 million dollars for a ferrari 250 gto. Collectors market is a strange and expensive place. I get it, it's not my jam but I get it.
